Mine likes 43.0gr Varget/CCI BR2/168gr SMK's/WIN Brass & 45.5gr of BLC-2 over the same.  I flatten primers about 1/2 way between min and max from Hodgdon's recommendations w/a Criterion re-bbl'd AP4.

Reloder 15 and 168 Sierra Matchkings work best in my 18" bulls on my LR308B's.  The NRA Bullseye awards stated that Hornady 168 gr. A-Max bullets did the best in factory loads for the AP4.  I would try to replicate with A-Max's.

I have done tests with RL15, 4064, 4895 and Varget, and all of my DPMS rifles like the RL15 the best (.308s, .260, .223).  YMMV.  I ended up selling my 8lb. can of Varget because I couldn't find a load that shot better the RL15 load with the Sierra .

My advice is to start about 1.5 grains under your max load (from a reputable load book) with a powder and load 5 rounds in .3 grain increments (5 loads total).  I put up 5 targets and shoot 1 round of each load at the respective target and then start over with the first target and load until I have 5 five-shot groups.  This distributes the barrel temperature variance to all the loads.   Remember to check for signs of over-pressured loads like cratered or blown primers.  If your loads are too hot, desist and load lighter.

Out of your 5 targets, you will typically see the groups get larger and tighter.  Use the tightest group to refine your best load (seating, +/- .1 gr. powder etc.).  Remember that the outside temperature will affect your "primo load".  If you are shooting half inch groups on cold day, they may shoot an inch on a hot day.  Adjust up or down .2 grains to compensate for temperature changes.

BH uses Ramshot TAC and their brass is made by Winchester.  If you want to copy BH's load use 42.5 of TAC for a 168 and 42.0 for a 175. BH uses CCI BR2 primers also.  Remington 9 1/2 primers will work and I can't tell any difference  form the CCI's. I'm using this load in my GAP 308 Crusader and it's wicked accurute.  Donald

Target load for 24" 308 Savage: 42.5gr 4064, 168gr SMK, Winchester cases, Fed 210M primers.

For 16" 308 carbines (DPMS, FAL), I wanted a common hunting/2-legged-varmint load that would shoot in 4 diff guns, wound up with this: 43.5gr Varget, Speer #2022 150gr SPBT, Federal cases, WLR primers. Also shoots good in the bolt gun (heck everything shoots good in that freak of nature).

I have been using 44 grain Varget with a 150 Hornady SST and Win Brass in my 16 inch DPMS AP4.

Edit to add this is with Federal 210 primers
