Hello all, I have a question about case size on a 223 rem. If 1.750" is the trim length, what is the minimum safe length for the said case? I can't find the answer in my Speer book.
What is acceptable sizes on the high and low side? Thanks in advanse.

I wouldn't trim shorter than 1.740", though some have reported cases in the 1.73x" range

1.74 inches is short enough, these cases don't have long necks.  But, what you might try is setting really short cases aside, loading and shooting them anyway to see if they grow back into normal range.

If you're learning to set up a trimmer, case loss is part of the cost of school.  What I recommend is shooting for a length a little longer than the "trim to" length, partly to avoid case loss but more important to me, to eliminate the aggravation of trying to hit the exact trom to length +/- 0.000 inches; that's crazy for this application, in my most humble of opinions.

I haven't measured any of it, but that Federal FC brass is FREAKING short!!!  It's well under the min/max parameters on my headspace guage.  I doubt I'd ever end up trimming any of that stuff before it hits the scrap bucket.
