some do, some don't sort brass,i do for certain guns and loads. my question is if you sort brass such as LC do you go as far as to sort by year such as 89 or say 02 and ect.or all the LC brass is supposed to be the same and it goes in one pile.

LC brass is manufactured and stored, then the headstamp is applied during the loading process.  The brass being loaded (prior to recent shortages) may have been in storage for years, so it isn't particularly useful to sort by year.  There have been periodic changes to the manufacturing process, so not all LC brass is the same.  You'll have to examine your brass and determine what's similar enough to group and what's not.  The last time I did this was in 2000 with Black Hills remanufactured (blue box) ammo; I grouped '96 - '99, and put anything earlier (<5% of the total) aside for die setup, practice, etc.

The only time I would sort LC is for match loads.

I have a batch of LC 00 and LC 02 I am using now.

These years were chosen because there were more of these than other years in the lot of brass I was sorting.
