the only thing i can get around here right now is CCI large pistol magnums. If I back the powder charge down to the minimums, use 185grs and use a slower burning powder, can I use these in my .45acp?

I've done this with .270 using large rfle magnum primers, great results.

If not anyone know where i can find some primers?

From the Speer Manual #10

Magnum Primers

Magnum primers contain a greater amount and/or slightly different explosive mix than is used in standard primers.  On ignition, magnum primers give longer burning, hotter flames.  Their use is recommended for (1) any ammunition that will be used at or below zero degrees F., (2) with most Ball powders and (3) with slow burning rifle powders like MRP and IMR 4831 in very large cases.  Magnum pistol primers often will give more uniform velocities in magnum handgun cartridges loaded with large charges or slow powders like 296, 2400 and H-110. Magnum primers may be used with faster burning or easy-to-ignite powders, but normally there will be no advantage in doing so.  As when changing other components, it is advisable to reduce powder charge weights on initial loading with magnum primers.

My red added.

Mark that is a good answer now I need to get me a copy of a Speer manual. I have 2K small pistol magnum primers and a lot of 38 and 9mm I want to load. I will be using Bullseye powder so I will start low and see how it works.

Speer is good......IIRC, they are up to the 14th edition.

Another good one (I have yet to buy) is the Hornady Manual.

But........important thing is to get one and READ it.

I need to buy as many of the big manuals as possible right now due to the availability or lack of for many of the components. I have Load Maps for the rounds I load but they don't usually cover the problems with components that we are all running into these days.
