Just looking to see what any of you have figured out as your favorite .45 ACP reloads.

I'm looking to try out a few different things and see if I can come up with a better load for myself.

I have been reloading for years and know I shouldn't just go blind on somebody elses advice.....

These loads would be for target shooting, not defense.   I would like some sort of quality out of them though.

Thanks.

What will you use these in?

My favorite for the 1911 is a 230gr FMJ powered by 5 grains of Bullseye, ignited by FC-150. For the revilver, I like the same FMJ powered by 5.3 grains of 231, same primer.

For target loads.........

.45 ACP brass (USA mfn brass, no particular brand)
Federal Std Lg Pistol primer
4.0 grains of BE
200 gr. LSWC bullet.

Seated length........so that the cartridge will have it's headstamp level with the hood of my M1911 barrel (used for a gauge).

Aloha, Mark

Great "range" loads:

5.5 grns Titegroup w/ 185 grn Montana Gold JHP

4.6 grns Titegroup w/ 230 grn Montana Gold FMJ

5.3 grns W-231 w/ 230 grn Red Line LRN

"Hot" load, very accurate  (work up safely!)

6.2 grns Titegroup w/ 185 grn Montana Gold JHP

Very accurate for me:

200 gr LSWC
4.1gr Bullseye (can substitute 4.5 gr Titegoup as it is almost as accurate)
CCI 300 Primer (good luck finding them)
Any brass

1" groups at 25 yards:

200 JFP from Montana Gold

Or 6.4 grs of AutoComp with the same info as above.

185 gr nosler hps over Bullseye is the most accurate load I've come up with for my 1911 so far.

5.0 g Bullseye under a 230g LRN lit with a CCI 300 in any case = cheap shootin'

Is that a typo on the OAL?

Sierra edition V states 1.155" COL for the 200gr FPJ.  Is there something wrong with that COL?

ETA:  Montana Gold's 200 gr JFP is  the same dimensions as Sierra's 200 gr FPJ

No problem with your post, the problem was with my figuring.

I checked Sierra V, you are correct. My bad.

No problem dryflash3; I am relatively new to reloading, and I take NO offense to seasoned reloaders watching my back and looking over my shoulder.  I have learned much from you all, and appreciate everyone's knowledge.

When I started reloading 45 acp I did a good deal of research on the web.  It seems that the old standby is Bullseye.  Clays, VV N310, and 231 are also very popular for target shooting.  Titegroup is also good if you use jacketed or plated bullets.  If you use it with case lead, it will greatly over smoke the bullet.  You will think you’re shooting cordite.  WST is supposed to work well and not over smoke lead bullets.  I have yet to try it.

An excellent place to use for handgun reloading info is the Brian Enos web site.  Those guys are extremely anal about their loads.  When they give you their load information they usually include the velocities and standard deviation of the velocities.  Just remember, they are loading only for competition, and that may not always be what you want.
