Using Wolf LRM primers for some .308 load work-up I had two misfires in 65 rounds. So today I went to refine my loads a little bit and load some more. I felt that I was short on primers on the last tray (but never counted) because I had only used 65 and there were only 31 in the tray. So before I dumped them in the Autoprime, I opened the next tray to look and I found a bad primer. It seems the anvil somehow got in upside down and then crushed sideways. I'll post a picture when I can get a good one (I only have my cell phone available right now).

The lesson is, check your primers, it'll save you the hassle of pulling bullets, or worse yet, may save the messed up shot on that varmint/game, or even your life if you ever need your ammunition for defense.

Never seen a primer with a crushed anvil. No anvil I have seen once. Post the pic if you can to add to the collection, Thanks....Ed

This is good advice that we should probably follow for all primers, no matter the manufacturer.

I agree.  I can imagine missing the opportunity of taking down a monster buck due to a flipped anvil.

I have never had a defective primer using CCI or Winchester.  There is a reason Wolf is less expensive.

When you hand load you are your own QC department.

The only defective primer that I remember finding was in arsenal loaded HXP ammo.  I had a dud round that didn't go off on several attempts.  I pulled the round down at home and found that there was no priming compound kernal in the primer, just a cup and anvil.

I always check my primers when in the Lee auto prime,, you an check them over fast with the cup up.
I had a bunch of Win primers in the '80's that had missing priming compound and missing anvils and got into the habit.

As with any manufacturer, sometimes things happen. I've never had a problem with the 20k + Wolf SRM I've used. I'm sure this is just a bad lot and I'll just keep an eye on them. For the 1 or 2 in ever hundred I'll gladly take the wolf primers at the lower price.
