| So I have been measuring my finished rounds from the base of the case to the tip of the bullet. I have now found out that using a bullet comparator is the way to get better consistancy out of my reloads. My question is what one to buy. The Hornady or the Sinclair Comparator? I reload 223, 22-250, 30-06, and would someday like to add a 6.5 Grendel to the safe. Is a comparator the tool I need to fix my changing my of the seating die to get my rounds all measured the same way? |

Hornady sells the Stoney Point tool after buying that part of the business a couple of years back. Sinclair sells a hex shaped tool with holes for different calibers.
The Hornady tool is more expensive, but it's a little easier to use since the bases for the bushings can be clamped to the anvil of the calipers. The Sinclair tool requires more dexterity. Part of the reason the Hornady tool is more expensive is better versatility for use as a case headspace gage or a base to ogive gage. See the IM I sent; you don't absolutely need this tool for setting the seater die. I outlined the steps for setting up your seater without one. |
