I've got all my paper and plastic ammo boxes full, I have metal ammo boxes crammed with reloads, 5.56, 30 carbine, 7.62 x51 and various others. I'm mainly concerned storing more 5.56 now.

I was looking at some of the resellers websites and buying ammo storage boxes can get expensive.

How do you store your reloaded ammo? Is it ok to store loose rounds in a metal ammo box?

I store loose rounds in an ammo can, but I line the can with a wal-mart bag first.  Something about the steel to brass direct contact bothers me.

Put a kitty litter desiccant in there too.

My pistol rounds all go in MTM plastic ammo boxes but I usually only have about a thousand of each loaded at a time. For .223 I keep more loaded at a time(2-4k), it all goes on strippers and into cardboards so it is easy to count and store in a cupboard and gun safe and on my reloading bench and in a 20mm ammo box. I have enough strippers for about 7 thousand rounds but they don't last for more than a few uses so I figure half are for replacement. I get a great feeling of satisfaction when they go into the cardboards, they are finally complete, waiting patiently in their proper home, ready to charge mags or slip into a sexy OD bandoleer at a moments notice.

My ammo cans are all painted green in and out.

Plastic ammo cans and plastic snap top containers from Walmart or Lowe's are a great way to store loaded ammunition.  5 gallon buckets with a lid work, too, but they're too heavy if they get full.
