Are all pistol primers the same in quality? Is the primer brand a huge concern in target/practice loads? I have been using CCi but did not know if there was another primer brand I should look at that is more economical?

Here is another stupid Q for ya.....Does the brand of a primer screw with a recipe? I know the pwder does but was not sure if a primer will? I want to standardize on one primer brand for all my pistol loads (9mm, .38 Spl, and .45 ACP) and did not know which one to go with??

Read:  How do changing various components affect chamber pressure and velocity?

As for Primers........

I am NOT AWARE of a spec for 100% uniformity over the industry (not counting size, within a small range), XYZ Brand vs. ABC Brand.  Also, even within a manufacturer, specs and raw materials may change over time. So, YMWV.

That being said.........I have been known to just use small rifle for small rifle, large rifle for large rifle, small pistol for small pistol and large pistol for large pistol, without being overly concerned about brand.  Because, you start low and work your way up, whenever you make a component change.

HTH.

Aloha, Mark

PS............

For the 9mm and .38 special..............small std. pistol.

For the .45 ACP.................................large std. pistol.

Brand wise..............pick one.   Work up your loads, start low and work your way up.

You probably have a favorite brand of toothpaste and shaving cream, right?  It's that way with primers.  I have a mix of CCI and Winchester primers in my stash storage space and I use them per the loads I have developed.  For example, I like CCI with .38 and 9mm, but that doesn't mean I have the "only right answer" here.

The ONLY real constant here is to work up your loads safely, even if all you change is the primer brand.

I just use CCI because that's what my local reloading place always seems to have in stock. I use other stuff for my precision work, but for all my blasting stuff, it's CCI.

Yes

Is the primer brand a huge concern in target/practice loads?

No, maybe,

Only that some brands will shoot better with a certain load in a certain gun.

Generally Wolf brand is cheaper. What I have switched to. All sizes.

Here is another stupid Q for ya.....Does the brand of a primer screw with a recipe?

Yes, answered above.

If you change brands you should work up your load again.

I know the powder does but was not sure if a primer will?

It can.

I went with Wolf.

Not every brand is available everywhere, you should use what you can find.

My recent primer orders have been Wolf. I would not hesitate to try them in any size/caliber. The price is right and the reputation for quality is very respectable.  dryflash3 seems like a sane guy, listen to him

Oh, so is Mark.
