Does anyone have a picture of a correctly crimped .223 cartridge?
I just made my first dummy round to check OAL, I have the case mouth centered in the cannelure, and i crimped.
I was under the impression that it would just "roll" the cartridge edge over slightly, but what I got was about the top .03" of the casing is kinda pressed into the cannelure.
I am using a Lee FCD.
I would post a pic but i dont have one of those fancy digital camera thingys.
Thanx for any help!!

No camera..........but, just do a comparison with a factory loaded M193 cartridge.

I've only loaded 20 rounds of .223 but I didnt' bother to crimp based on information that I read here.  Not having a crimp did not affect the rounds that I could tell.

That was a requested picture of those 3 particular loads.. After they were loaded, I put them back in the lee cutter mandrel, and polished them up with steel wool, then amonia free metal polish.. You just add a little to a patch, and hold the round while you spin the drill for around 5 seconds..   I dont do that to all of them, but I did for that picture...

If I remember correctly, there is a 69gr hpbt..  a 55 gr spbt.... and a 55gr fmj..

The Lee FCD doesn't roll crimp.  Anyway, lots of good pics here from babob http://www.ar15.com/content/page.html?id=404

Just giving you a bad time.... those are the cleanest (and shiny) .223/5.56 I've seen in a long time!

The FCD doesn't roll crimp, It uses a collet to *squeez* the brass onto the bullet.   Depending on how tight of a crimp you do with the FCD it will leave a nice crease in the case mouth after fireing and resizing! (I even E-mailed Lee to verifty that was in fact "normal")

I am new to reloading too, but so far I'm not all that impressed with the FCD,  Mainly the crease it leaves in the case mouth.  A Roll crimp seems more logical to me, but many people swear by the FCD..  I also don't know where the "Factory" comes from in FCD because I don't *think* factory (Commercial) ammo uses a collet type crimp,  maybe i'm wrong!?   If they do, the factory crimp's don't leave creases like the FCD does..

If you want to do a standard roll crimp, you can do that via your Lee Bullet Seating Die (Assuming you are using all Lee dies).
