Has anyone run into a problem with this particular brass?

It was packaged as Wolf brass cased 5.56mm in plain white boxes.  The head stamp is:

nny 2005

The problem is that this will not go nicely into a #10 shell holder on my press.  It seems that the rim is too thick to slide into the shell holder.  The really strange thing is that it played nicer when I de primed/resized it, but now after trimming. swaging the primer pocket and retumbling it is really giving me some problems.....I am only loading them for pure plinking purposes....plenty of LC for the SMK's, but I am about to throw the stuff away.

Thanks,

I wonder if you could have over swagged it and slightly deformed the rim?

Deffinately odd, as most shell-holders I've used have plenty of wiggle room.

That is definately a possibility and I had not thought of that, but it makes sence, but I only just barely swaged the crimp, barely any resistance.  The thing that makes my wonder is the fact that I set up the LC brass to the same swageing (sp) resistance and had no problem.  This could be due to a difference of brass quality and hardness.

I thought nny headstamp was Prvi Partizan?

That is what I thought too, but I have read that Wolf just repackages other ammo and markets it as it's own...such as their fantastic .22lr that is made by the German company SK

The Wolf "Gold" line is Privi ammo that has been repackaged.

if its Privi Partisan brass I've had that same problem, I played around with it for a while and finally just gave up and went back to lake city brass.

It's not "nny" but rather the Cyrillic characters "ППУ" which stand for "PPU" in Serbian.

I have had trouble with the pp brass and the Radway green also.  It lookis to me that the rim is distorted from the extractor.  Reminds me of my H&K91 and it;s treatment of .308 brass.
I think that the base and rim are too soft.  There are no  problems with other types of brass.   I just recycle the ones that are distortede.

From Cartridge Collectors.

nny - Prvi Partizan-Namenska Proizvodnja, Titovo, Uzice 31000, Yugoslavia. These are actually Cyrillic letters equal to "PPU in the Western alphabet.
PPU - Prvi Partizan, 31000 Titovo, Uzice, Yugoslavia
PP - Prvi Partizan, 31000 Titovo, Uzice, Yugoslavia

I have not seen any of the PP headstamp,
For reference, the website is

ETA: I see GHPorter beat me to it

Are the Cyrillic characters showing up for everybody?  They sure do look like "nny" at first, don't they?

Capn looks like the brass is a tad on the soft side.  Try putting a square on the bottom of the brass where the primer hole is at and see if you can detect if it's concave.

Note:  That is another reason WHY some people separate their brass.

IF, they find a certain headstamp that they have trouble with.........next time, they won't use it.

YMWV.

I will check it out when I get home, but I bet that is the problem.  And yes it is the Cryillic letters....I just couldn't find them on my keyboard

Thanks Guys,

I recently had some issues with .44 magnum brass.  Some of it was troublesome in the shell holder for the press and the shell holder for handheld primer tool.  I didn't spend much time messing with the ones that wouldn't fit.

I did notice that many of them could be turned 90 degrees and they would slide right in/out of the shell holders while some still wouldn't fit.

Don't remember the particular headstamp now but I had a mix of Win, R-P, Fed. and Magtech (I believe is was Magtech).

There could also be burs from extractors making those rims a little thick in a couple of spots.  Those would not make me think the brass was bad, just slightly abused.

I had the same problem with some Prvi Partizan. I junked all of it.

Same problem here too, also had it with some previously reloaded LC08 brass I picked up at the range.

I have this problem with my PPU (prvi) brass. It really starts to hurt the thumbs on a single stage after 20 or so rounds.

Its a PITA
