What kind of rifle - bolt action or semiauto?

What do you want to do with said rifle - hunt game, target shoot, hunt for varmints, ...

A 1/10" twist will allow you to shoot just about anything, from 110 gr light-weight, low recoil varmint and plinking rounds up through 190, 210 and possibly heavier bullets for long-distance target shooting and for hunting larger game.

To recommend something, we gots to know what you wants to do.

P.S. - do you already have powders and bullets or is this totally open-ended question for you.

When I saw this post I got excited!  I have some good 30-06 loads.  I am glad that I didn't rush and dig my loads out.  My initial reaction when I read your "plinking" response was the heck with you; shoot whatever junk you have, but since it is a semi-auto, I will caution that you are probably limited to IMR 4895 or IMR 4064 and 150-175 gn bullets.

Default load for an 06 is a 180 gr bullet. Will do anything an 06 will do.

I would try IMR-4350.

Airgun, I am a big fan of the 06 but up until now have been limited to factory loaded amo and bolt actions. I have just spent $3500 on this rig and hope to call plinking being able to hit a coke can at 500 yds with great regularity.Im still confused why they made anything else other than the 06   Thanks c

Take a look at the 155 grain Scenar bullet for longer shots.  You'll be able to launch this bullet at 3000 fps or a little higher, the BC is 0.508, and the bullets are accurate.

Also try 168 and 175 grain Bergers.

I would start with IMR 4350 unless Cobb has a recommendation for their gas porting.

Truth be told... Just because my rifle likes brand x does not mean yours will.
Experiment with factory loads from every source you can acquire, and pick the best of them to start working up a load from there. Also remember to compare apples to apples, IE: 165gr. to 165gr. Once you have the powder charge narrowed down, adjust seating depth, IE: .010, 020, 030 off lands. Some like like to seat into the lands, but I find that it is not a good practice as the initial pressure spikes way to much.(not good)
500yds might be pushing it for a 24" barrel, it is possible although you may be dealing with about 5' of drop.
NOTE: "Most" Savage rifles like Sierra bullets.

The drop at known distances is almost irrelevent once the come up is known.  The wind is far more important.

You have a high dollar looking rig there.  You better get with the manufacturer about powders and bullet weights.  IMR 4350 and 180 gns may be default for bolt guns, but it will ruin a Garand in a hurry.
