Does anybody use Quick load, Patagonia, or exbal for reloading?  I am interested in aquiring a program to more easily organize, and record my load data and development.

Does quick load help in initial load development, or is it a large database of cartridges.

At this time I don't really have a requirement for a sole ballistics program, as my current load development and shooting is under 300 yrds. (for now).  I am really wanting to get into the Long range precision game, currently having a .308 in a varmit barrel and a 7 mag in a sporter contour,(hopefully will get built up to something heavy).

Is there one program that would fit my needs the best, or any others you have used, liked, or trashed?  Or a quick rundown on pos. and negatives of some programs.

TIA

I think you are confused about these software programs.  Maybe it's just me.  It's late at night.  I am tired.

Quikload does internal ballistics - before the bullet leaves the barrel.  It is an analytical tool that points you in hthe right direction for load development.

Exbal does external ballistics - after the bullet leaves the barrel.  It gives trajectory information (drop and drift, ...).

I don't know the other.

None of these are a reloading database, as such.  For that, you'll want Sierra's Reloading manuals (hard copy or CD).

I use MS Excel to analyze and summarize the chronograph data for my reloads.  I never get rid of the hard copy printouts, though.  I have had too many HDD crashes to trust storing all the data on a PC.

You should use EXCEL for data keeping.

Excel is the way to go.

I use Patagonia's Loadbase and a custom excel spreadsheet. I keep everything on excel but only loads I like w/ chrono data on loadbase. Loadbase is more external ballistics anyways but it does have a decent database. Easier to do it on excel. Excel is very powerful.

Concerning Quick Load, yes Quick load does help in initial load development. I use it & really like it. however I don't care for Neco's bullshit attitude concerning the sharing of data derived from their software, kinda of like MS telling you can't share Documents created on MS Word, pure bull.
As for a data base & exterior ballistics the ones mentioned are good, you may also want to check out Point Blank

You can share documents created using their software. You just can't share the software.

I have Quickload which is for interior ballistics primarily and QuickTarget which is for exterior ballistics. I am new to both of them but I love to play with data and these programs fill that need. QuickTarget works with QuickLoad in that you can import interior ballistics and predict exterior ballistics. You can save load data but the extent to which you can do so I am not sure yet because I am not completely familiar with them. I think of them as the Photoshop of reloading software, I will probably never figure them out completely.

QucikLoad and QuickTarget are not just reloading manuals translated to software, they are a more predictive and very variable adjustable. I would ( I, being a High School and 1 year tech school educated machinist FWIW)say the programs use math and physics to predict interior and exterior ballistics rather than some standard numbers you would get from any loading manual.

To keep track of data I just scan my targets and chrono printouts and save them in both my PCs and photobucket.

Thanks for the replies, I really meant to inquire about quick load, but threw the others in for I don't know what.  I knew Exbal was for exterior ballistics, but didn't know that was its sole purpose.  Thanks for the replies, I might have to try out the quick load.
