What does your re-loading manual say? Aloha, Mark PS..........

5.56 loads are assembled in new cases, primers are crimped, and loaded to a set pressure as measured in a lab, with powders a reloader cannot buy. Us humble reloaders are using once or more fired brass, primer pocket crimp has been removed, and use commercial primers and powder. Not many of us have a means of testing the pressure our loads generate. We use visual and physical evidence to judge pressure. That is why we load 223 loads from the various reloading manuals. If you want 5.56 ammo, buy it new. A lot of fun can be had shooting mire 223 loads. |

You aren't going to get to M193 velocities with Varget. Just can't stuff enough powder in the case. With that said, I love Varget w/ 55 gr FMJ loads. AG's Favorite Varget 55 gr FMJ load: * LC brass trimmed to 1.750" (Possum Hollow Trimer kicks ass * CCI 400 SR Primer * Hornady 55gr FMJ (The best bang for the buck... Winchester's consistency sux) * 26.5 grains of H-Varget (gonna have to probably use a decent length drop tube) * OAL to middle of crimp groove (I try to consistently set at 2.245") * Firm Lee FC I consistently get over 3200 fps out of my 20" 1:8 with this load. And it is accurate in all my AR's. This is my plinking/ hoarding ammo... I've got 1000's of rounds of it made up. Good stuff. Of course, all the normal cautions apply... - AG |
