I have been reloading for a while now and have been loading  55gr fmj at 2.25" OAl. I just bought some hornady 55gr soft points  for coyote hunting and noticed in the Hodgdon and lee manual it lists COAL at 2.20". I loaded some of these hornadys at 2.25 and I think I'm just not use to the different taper of these bullets but they look like they need to be seated deeper. Is anywhere in between ok?  Thanks

The idea is to get about 1 to 1.5 diameters of the bullet into the case neck.

If you like 2.25, I expect that will work fine.  The soft point bullets are probably a little shorter than the FMJ's you've been shooting so they would need to seat out too far to match the COAL of a longer bullet.

They are a bit shorter. I know that 2.26" is maximum for .223 so would 2.20" be minimum?
