Rifle: CMMG 5.56 1/8 18"
Load: LC case, WSR primer, TAC powder, Hornady FMJBT W/C,
Best group was a 10 shot group with 23.2 gr. TAC = 1.45 MOA with 8 in 1.15 MOA
Second was a 10 shot group with 23.7 gr. TAC = 1.86 MOA with 8 in .97 MOA

My goal was to develop a plinking load.  Im not sure how fast they were going since I dont have chrony.

I started getting flattened and a couple pierced primers at 24.7gr.  No other pressure signs.

Would this be caused partially at all by my selection of soft primers?

This makes me very happy since the best I ever got with factory loads 55 grain load, BH blue box, M193, and Ultramax, was about 3.5" 10 shot group with no decernable difference between brands.  I need to try to find a sweet spot in between those to loads but non the less it was a very pleasureable evening at the range to see my work come together so quickly.

I can't wait to through some heavier lead down the pipe.

Cool.

Take the firing pin out of your rifle and polish the pit out of the tip if it's not too deep and ragged.  If you don't, you'll get more pierced primers at low charge weights.

Your 24.7 grain load appears to be too hot.  Don't worry about it, you can't always get to the maximum charge weight shown in the load data.  Ramshot shows either 25.2 or 25.3 grains for 3 different 55 grain bullets, and one of those is as hot as you would ever want.

If the 23.7 grain load makes you happy, you're in good shape.  The speed doesn't matter, accuracy is more important.

Thanks for the tip you were right there was a little pit on the tip of the firing pin.

I already made notes to go to or beyond that point with this load.  I didnt notice pierced primer until the last couple shots.  The primers were slightly flattened at that point but not enough to scare me from shooting the rest of those few loads.

Now if I can get those 55's to 1 MOA under Ill be ecstatic.  If not oh well its a cheap and fairly accurate load.

Use CCI # 41 "military" 5.56 primers.  I run 25.1 grains TAC behind Hornady 55 grain fmj boat tail.  3140 fps out of the 20".  Mild and accurate.

Welcome to reloading.

I recommend CCI 41 primers also. I have found WSR primers to be a bit soft/thin.
