Guess i didnt get enough lube on one of my cases got it stuck in my RCBS dies..

bought a stuck case remover but my question is i cant get the decapping pin out.. its just inside the rim of the brass so if i drill it out ill ruin my decapping pin.. How do i get the decapping pin to come out farther?? if at all.. Thanks

Take the entire stem out of the die.

The decapping pin extends through the top of the die. First loosen the lock nut on the top of the die then you can atleast pull the decapper up to the neck of the case. Then if you remove the lower piece that screws into the die you can remove the decapper from the case. But be aware the neck tension may make it very hade to pull the decapper out of the case.

Assuming it’s a bottleneck case, just back the stem up as high as you can and that should be good enough.

Plus, decapping pins are cheap (though you definitely don’t want to bend the stem).

Impossible with a stem that has an expander button on it and the case is fully in the die.

When drilling the stuck case head, a drill press with a positive stop, indexed to stop immediately on break-through is the best method.  Stop collar on a hand drill is a barely acceptable second method.

Ham-fisted types can ruin a die if the bit breaks-through and snags the decapping stem, turning the drill bit through the case wall and into the die body.

I wouldn't say impossible for ingeneous idiots.  In any case, the stem can be backed up.

just loosen the decapping rod nut or whatever and move the rod up forward as much as possible.  Then drill and tap the case and remove with a stuck case remover.

Now the rod is still stuck inside the case, you can just drill a bigger hole where you did for the tap, or cut the case in two, and push the decapping rod out towards the primer pocket end vs trying to force it thru the case neck

Once you have the cease head drilled and tapped, loosen the stem again.  It can provide additional resistance to extraction of the case, possibly causing the threads to strip.

Back the decapper out.  You will have plenty of room to drill though the case head.  I've taken cases out of a bunch of dies over the past 35 years of reloading.  I use an RCBS stuck case remover and it work well.

I'll usually just dremel tool off the case head and slip the decapper out once the case is free.
