I'm soon gonna be setting up myself for reloading 9mm,223 and probably 243 on a dillon 550. I really don't have much space to use as its having to go into my bedroom I have an area that measures roughly 5ft wide and 2.5 deep that I will build a bench and put my reloader under my window between the wall and dresser is this enough space for a setup? I have used a 550 before but the guy has an entire room dedicated to reloading so the size of the setup looks small. Also how sturdy does the bench need to be? I know the top can't have much if any give to it but is it nessessary to nail it to the studs in the wall? |
| Yes, it's enough. Not ideal, but enough. I've seen pictures of people using Black and Decker Workmates as their loading benches and putting out plenty of rounds. Just make sure you keep everything tidy and organized; a cramped space is much worse if you have to deal with chaos too. |
Sir, when I worked in Bremerton I built a reloading bench in my apartment bedroom in Port Orchard. I used 4X4s for the legs, 2X4s for the frame, and 2X6s for the top sides to support the leverage required of the press. I had my Dillon 550 and a Rockchucker mounted on it in addition to a number of other accessories. I rebuilt the bench inside an apartment storage closet when I relocated to Newport News. You can build about anything you need for a reloading bench, it just takes a bit of planning and design. Most apartment landlords might discourage you from attaching your reloading bench to structural wall studs. JMHO, 7zero1. |
