Looking to see what everyone is using as a Garand load. I've read enough to know that I don't want to damage anything with a bolt-gun load. I've got 150g FMJ's and both 4064 and 4895 powder. |

Here are some results of a session I did two weeks ago. Keep in mind my Garand has a barrel like an old sewer pipe, and may be keeping pressures and velocities unnaturally low. Mixed commercial .30-06 cases, CCI-200 primers, 147gr FMJBT bulk bullets, IMR 4985 powder. All velocities are average of eight shots. 45.0grs --> 2475 fps; extreme spread 130 fps 45.5--> 2537; 172 46.0--> 2554; 154 46.5--> 2558; 72 47.0--> 2586; 71 47.5--> 2595; 45 For comparison, LC 69 M2 ball: 2568 fps; ES 76 |

Info I've read from Garand loaders seems to indicate that most load 150fmj-fb M2 loads in the area of 47-48 grains of new IMR4895. I shoot at 47.5 grains with that bullet and it shoots well in 3 Garands. Best accuracy is reported in this range also. I've loaded RP, Win, LC, and HXP cases all with RP 9 1/2 primers. COL is 3.340" maximum but my loads are 3.320-3.330". Here's a site for some info but I'd consider their data maximum for the Garand and work up to it. www.alabamaservicerifleteam.com/id17.html |
