Who here has experience on these "coated" lead bullets? I am looking to pick up several K's worth of heavy, bulk bullets for both .45 and 9mm (230gr and 147gr respectively) and found attractive prices and good reviewed for Precision Bullets. The one downside is the apparent delay in shipping of months or more? Any feedback on these two companies, or suggestions to go elsewhere? |

Well, Precision Delta is jacketed, not plated/coated. So far I've bought their 230gr 45 FMJ and 124gr 9mm FMJ and have been happy. Must order in 2K increments (okay to mix/match calibers). I usually receive my orders quickly, and will definitely purchase from again. Precision Bullets, the coated stuff, I have no experience with yet. I did buy 500 of their 230gr 45 to try, but haven't loaded any yet. Looks impressive enough, and the cost is decent. When I ordered, there was no delay in shipment. For plated stuff... I buy Berrys (but from tjconevera.com) and have been happy with them as well. Very happy with the bullets, and shipment was very quick from TJ. I've purchased directly from Berrys before as well, but after factoring in the 'lead surcharge', TJ had the better shipped price. |

Precision Bullets, are molly coated bullets and they are excellent. However, the cost has risen on them so high recently: Precision Bullets moly coated lead - Precision Delta FMJ bullets - Berry's Plated Bullets 9mm 147grn case price=$66.67/K .... $84.00/K for Precision FMJ .... $96.26/K for Plated 45acp 230grn case price=$106/K ..... $126/K for Precision FMJ ..... $148.09/K for Plated that I've gone over to the FMJ as plated is now more expensive than either. |

I bought a buttload of Precision Bullets a couple of years ago. Good service then, may be running behind now what with demand. Shoot good in my G20. I've used Precision Delta in the last couple of months (ETA- FMJs- not cast). Call and check out their production schedule if you're time constrained. Also good service. Good bullets. I'd use again. Flat rate shipping, about as cheap as you'll find. |

Have you ever dealt with Missouri Bullet Company, I was looking at these and wondered how they load www.missouribullet.com/shop/details.php?prodId=51&category= |

My Dad and I just tried some Precision Delta .45ACP 200gn LSWC, the ones coated with Rooster lube. Had severe leading in 3 different pistols even with reduced loads after only 10-20 rounds. The coating seemed to be not thick enough as I could scratch the lead eaisly with my fingernail. Evidently the bullets should be pretty hard to scratch with the "fingernail test". Dad sent them an email and was contacted by phone later that day. The man who called was very concerned with the problem and wanted to make it right. We agreed they must have had an issue when the bullets were coated. They are sending out another box (2000) for us to try and refunded the cost of return shipping for the first batch. I have heard good reviews also of the coated lube bullets including Precision Delta's from IPSC shooters. They shipped the first bullets 2 days after we ordered them a few weeks ago. I have used a couple of thousand FMJ's from them and have to say they are well made and accurate. The loads I tried were 4.8gn reduced to 4.3gn of Titegroup. Leading was the full length of the barrel. Will update as soon as the new bullets arrive with range report. |

I have been using Precision Bullets in 9 and 40. The work great in both calibers. The one downside is if they are out of what you want be prepared to wait. I have an order still outstanding from January and another one from mid April. These are all pushed by Titegroup. Another shooter where my wife and I shoot is using the 200 gr 45's with AA #5 with real good results. ETA: Just received shipping confirmation for my January order. 14 May 2008 |

We tried out the new 200gn SWC's today. Still have leading in the full length of the barrel after only 16rds. The bullets are accurate, I just can't seem to find a load that doesn't leave the bore looking like a sewer pipe. I guess these bullets can't be pushed too fast, I was hoping to make major power factor or just under. I believe the lead used is a little on the soft side for attempting these velocities in my pistols. ETA: I also had no luck with Clays and Bullseye. I thought the Titegroup was just way too hot and burning off the lube. The bullets still streaked heavily from cone to crown. Oh well, the way I see it, now I have a good excuse to trade up to the FMJ's. |
Have you noticed that they smoke any more than jacketed or plated bullets? Been looking at these for awhile for my Colt SBR. |
Yes, they may smoke more than a plated or jacketed bullet, but it is a matter of powder selection. Titegroup, while very economical, is a very hot burning powder. It is double based and has one of the highest percentages of nitroglycerine of any powder. It is the combustion heat that will cause the bullets to smoke more. I've been loading the Precision 9mm 147's with VVN340 and have very little smoke. Go to Brian Enos' site for much discussion of Precision bullets and loads. |
Thanks sleepercaprice1. Will do. |
I do use Titegroup, and they will smoke a little, but not too bad. The above advice is excellent. |
