Ive asked ATI and GSG this but no replies. Maybe someone out there knows.

Why is the hammer designed to spring back after its fired?

All my other firearms the hammer rest against the bolt after fired.
I was looking at a hammer mod that can be done and it makes alot of sense but I wanted to find out why it wasnt made like that to start with.

Rebounding hammer. SIG pistols operate the same way. I believe it's an added safety measure to ensure the hammer can't contact the firing pin unless it is dropped by the trigger from full cock.

Thanks for the reply. Im still waiting on ATI for an answer. The email I sent GSG misunderstood my question so I emailed them again.
Im really liking the hammer mod but just want to make sure there isnt another reason for the hammer to rebound

WOW!
The hammer design must be classified.
I haven't gotten a reply from ATI at all and GSG only sent one that didnt answer my question(no reply from the 2nd email)

Kinda makes me wonder if they may have messed up abit with it and are not wanting to shed any light on it.
I still like the GSG522 very much but with the lack of an answer it makes me think twice about buying another one..

I am actually not in Customer Service directly here any longer.  I still keep an eye on the AR15ers though.  Write up your inquiry to my email, [email protected] and I will get it to the gunsmiths for an answer.

Thanks.
