| As the title said, I am in need of some feedback. I am thinking my next gun buy will be a Gsg 5, just wanting some opinions on what your experiences have been and with what models. I am just wanting something a little cheaper to shoot. It seems reviews are kind mixed, like you have a 50/50 shot at getting a good one, but I do not believe everything I read on the internet either, that's why I am asking for some help. Thanks in advance. |

I bought a GSG-5 in March of 2009 and have put over 8,000 rounds through it since with the only FTF due to cheap Wally-World. Rem. bulk ammo.
I replaced the stock with a CLASSIC ARMY all-metal collapsable stock and slim-line fore-grip. Both HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Check RRAGES website. Use ONLY GSG factory magazines. Don't even bother with aftermarket mags, no matter what anyone says. They just plain don't work, even with the "spring-kit." It's a blast to shoot. Get one, you won't be disappointed. |

Love mine. Converted to SBR several years ago and this was the only problem I had. Originally got the gemtech barrel which ran like crap from the beginning.
Changed it out for a factory short barrel and have been very pleased with reliability and accuracy. Now my only problem is that I love this platform and just put money down on a MP5 9mm clone which should be coming this week. Then will have another SBR tax stamp and can to purchase. It never ends. |

I've had mine for about 3 years (GSG5-PK) and have about 11,000 rounds through mine. It's a fun accurate plinking gun to shoot at less than 25 yards. You absolutely HAVE to change all of the screws in the gun and loctite your bolt. If you're willing to take the time to do that, then I would recommend you get one. If you're not willing to take the time to change all of the screws out, the I would NOT recommend getting one...
I also have the drum mag for it. I'm on my 3rd drum magazine. They all break in exactly the same way. I had to RMA it twice to get a semi-decent one. It still jams up occasionally but not enough for me to want to exchange it for another... It's very picky about what ammo you shoot, well mine is, but that doesn't mean they all are. I can only shoot Federal bulk pack ammo. Everything else jams, fails to load, fails to fire, or stovepipes. It's the least reliable firearm I own (could NEVER depend on it), but it's the most fun to shoot at the range. Go figure... I won't say it's the cheapest one I have to shoot. I have a single shot bolt action .22 Marlin. That is definitely the cheapest to shoot because it's not semi-auto! If you're looking for a fun cheap range gun to plink with and you're willing to put the time into it for the screw kit upgrade, then it's probably worth your time/money. |
