Hi Everyone,

ATF was here today for a status update on how the recall is coming along.

We ran our total numbers for them so far and since we kicked off the recall in February we have received back and sent out replacements for 53.4% of the total shrouds imported of the bad design.

They were stunned to say the least, as they told us to estimate only about a 20 to 25% return rate before their deadline (which they still haven't given to us).

Thank you all so much for your cooperation and support in in this massive undertaking.  We're half way home kids, keep it up.

What is the recall for?  First I've heard of anything.

Recall was for SD rifle barrel shrouds that didn't have a "liner".

A "sleeve" if you will over the barrel. The first batch were hollow short the two end caps.

They put a metal sleave in that runs end to end, so if you put it on a SBR you don't have a one baffle supressor. (ATF is so strange with their rulings)

"What is the recall for? First I've heard of anything."

The Sd version had a fake can that the ATF deemed, after the fact, to be a real suppressor. Hence, making GSG-5 SD owners felons. Of course, if you aren't a member here, you won't know about it.
So, 46.6% of the owners out there are still shooting illegal guns. The funny thing is, ATF wanted you to mail it back to ATI, another potential felony (mailing unregistered suppressors in the mail), so ATI could mail you one that meets the ATF's screwed up findings. My post isn't a dig on ATI or Chris, they did the best they could with what they had. My dig is on the feds, their ruling, and the fact that there will be hundreds of people out there shooting illegal guns, without ever knowing. Just waiting for some jack boot to bust em. Luckily, I had one of the carbines so not affected.

Regarding this:

Not true, we do have the announcement on our home page as well as we received the lists of every single dealer to purchase these guns from our 14 wholesalers and have mailed them letters per the instructions of ATF.  It was a ton of letters.  If the dealer who sold you the gun bought it from another dealer or from another wholesaler who buys from our wholesalers (i.e. RSR, ATI does not sell to them but they buy GSGs from our distributors to sell etc) then we would have no way to conact that FFL.  If you are an FFL who bought an SD from one of our wholsalers listed on our website and you have not received your letter, we are still sending them weekly but have them call me with their info and I can make sure they get one.

Hence, making GSG-5 SD owners felons

Well, not yet as there is currently still an open ended amnesty for the recall given by ATF to facilitate this recall.  To date, they still have not given us an end period, so ATF still considers the shroud a hunk of aluminum.

So, 46.6% of the owners out there are still shooting illegal guns

The guns are not illegal once the amnesty runs out, just the shrouds.

The funny thing is, ATF wanted you to mail it back to ATI, another potential felony (mailing unregistered suppressors in the mail),

See the above about the amnesty

Agreed about the feds, if they would just publicize their recall demand through their official site and newsletters, we'd have a lot less headaches about making sure the word is spread.

Hmm, yeah, that seems pretty long to me.  We return the ok shrouds via US mail so as to not bankrupt ATI in UPS fees, and we have had instances of them getting lost.  Give us a call at 800-290-0065 next week when we're all back at the office (we're all travelling this week, I'm at the Portland OR airport waiting for my plane right now) and we can check on it for you.  We're typically able to mail out the replacement within 24 to 48 hours of receiving it, so 5 weeks sounds like it may have gotten 'lost' in the mail.  I can confirm the mail out date for you if you give me your serial and if it seems too long, we'll try it again.
