You sure you just don't want to wait for the unveiling of the new ATI  "GStG-22" at the 2010 Shot Show?

$200 for a doner seems kinda pricey, maybe try and find one that's broken on e-bay or something. Might also look at it as a 10-22 rebody like they have done with some of the other airsoft guns and the doner would be cheaper.

Good luck with the project and can't wait to see it.

edit: Here's one on e-bay for a little cheaper

I just can't freakin believe that ATI isn't working over GSG to build these...

No trademark infringements, no copyrights, no patents, NO LAWSUITS - just freakin build it and we will BUY THEM.

Sheesh, how much MORE encouragement does ATI need to get on the phone with Germany????????????????????????

I just wish someone would come out with an affordable semi-auto StG44 clone.

It is already being re-produced by someone else, just not in 22 as far as I know. So nothing GSG can do about it other than work some kind of deal which GSG would have to pay through the nose on.

I have no plans to buy a donor gun but maybee a few parts would be useful, especially the rear sight.

True, but... You can buy a case of GSG guns for what they want in Euros for their .22LR MP44. And with no word in sight that the Euro gun will ever be imported to the USA. Have no idea why other than the unsaleable price-point. All kinds of neat stuff you can find outside of the USA that are GCA of 68 illegal to us.

The fact that there are MANY AR-15/22 drop-in conversions and dedicated guns hasn't stopped anyone from offering yet another rendition of an AR in .22; so what's to stop ATI from having GSG - or someone else - pursue this?

Yeah, I read you on the donor, rather pricey experiment.

The way the WASR22 and SIG522 come apart, they are other guns that are looking to be "hideable" inside various airsoft shells.

Ok guys, this is the last time on this, seriously, lol.  GSG & ATI did look at this model last year.  There is a company that owns the rights to the gun in Germany completely.  Not only are they a competator of GSG on the international market but they have put an astronomical $ number out there for the right to produce.  GSG wants to keep their MSRP value at 500 or less and as it stands right now the US MSRP if GSG were to do this, buy all new factory equip for the model and pay the royalties etc would be well over a grand.

That's why we're doing something else completely that we will hopefully unveil at Shot Show, as ATI is pushing GSG to have the two new guns ready for displaying at that time.

And to find out what those new models are......come to shot show in January.

So that's it, you guys can keep talking the 44 till you're blue in the face but unless the people who own the model rights become more reasonable, a lot more reasonable, it will not be made by GSG.  As an importer, ATI wants our manufacturers to make product that we can sell because of course, ATI has to commit to a certian amount of guns per year contractually.  There is no way ATI will push GSG to make a 1000+ dollar .22 when we have to commit to numbers in the tens of thousands for it to be worth while for GSG to invest in.

Trust me on this, swing it any way you like but this is the business we're in and it's not just as simple as no patents etc.

Sorry.

Guys please take this somewhere else.
This thread is about trying to cobble together something cool since GSG is not able to do it themselves as Chris has stated several times.

if it's any consolation, I should have these in the country by september.  and don't ask about a conversion kit though right now lol.

Speaking of conversion kits, the SD Conversion, very first shipment ever, is being delivered to our warehouse tomorrow.  That only took 19 months!

With all of the 22LR's coming out, I would love to see a GSG 33/93.  Just saying because it's kind of expensive to take the HK93 out all of the time.

OK, I'll behave. No - we don't want $1K .22LRs. That's why (Umarex) $600.00 .22LR guns don't sell until they are deeply discounted.
Anyway - suggest you at least throw us a bone and hint at what the guns - or at least what ONE of the guns - will be...
I've been around marketing long enough to know that if you can build some buzz early, folks will take a wait and see approach with their spending - so that they have money to buy for when you make the big delivery.

Create the old-skool IBM "fear, uncertainty, doubt" so as to get folks to hold off on their purchases so as to see what you have to offer.

So Chris, when will the conversion kits be available and how much will they cost?

Just kidding, I'm not crazy about that one.

How about an MG-34 (which could be done with the box mag), or MG-42 (harder logistics wise) or FG-42 would be cool but I think that somebody else owns the rights to that.

So who is going to take on the project of building this bastard STG-44?
