I ended up getting a great deal on a carbine model but wanted to convert it to the SD.  I bought a conversion kit like this one:

I had some extra rails lying around along with a flashlight and a laser and went to work with the end result not perfect but not too bad either.  Does it look okay or should I go back to original?  Thanks.

Form over Function: SD begs for clean round lines, in my humble opinion - lose the rails & accessories.

Function over Form:  For functionality... keep em.  I like having a VFG & light.

Really user preference.

Thanks for the input.  I think I like it and will keep it this way.  Any other comments?

did you have a good time building it up the way you want it?  we'd like to assume, yes (otherwise what would the point be of dreaming up things to mod?)

After reading your post I ordered one of the SD shroud kits from E & L and have to say that I like it.Until I either buy a real SD or buy a conversion kit the shroud kit will be a nice addition to my collection. It only takes a few minutes to switch out the factory handguard and shroud to the E & L shroud and it definately gives the gun a different look.I have to say that E & L is a very professional company to deal with.I placed my order on monday and recieved their shroud kit on wednesday. On the down side the shroud kit has a little more plastic to it than I prefer, but it makes the gun even more fun to shoot which is what owning a GSG 5 is all about.

Definately had fun doing the "Build" and adding all of the accessories.  Someone once said that when you are working on your guns or cleaning them, you should equate it to working on your "Hot Rod" in your garage.

Yes, the shroud does give it a different look and I am glad you had a good experience with the company...it looks good and thanks for the pictures.
