How about we put all the OAL measurements here for all those inquiring into BATFE lengths?

GSG with all the variations of folders and sliders collapsed and open, and all the other info that pops up here from time to time.

I think this will mostly pertain to the rifle GSG's, unless you SBR it, then length is not an issue

Edit...Grammar

I think the only stock that was under 26" OAL when folded was the CA B&T-style folder: http://www.airsoftextreme.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=598&products_id=2612

But i could be wrong. There are other brands and styles of folders that might also be less than 26" OAL.

I think mostly thia will pertain to the rifle GSG's as unless you SBR it, you cant legally put a stock on it

Although I just sold my HBAR and picked up a GSG carbine, I'm relatively new to the whole post ban tacticool culture I'm seeing. In regards to doing an SBR job on a GSG Carbine, has anyone ever determined what the shorter barrel does to accuracy and velocity? I can't help but think that there has to be some appreciable loss in both regards. Is it possible to do the SBR stamp deal on the pistol version to allow a stock to be added as opposed to doing the work on the rifle version?

So I guess I'm asking if this is all about cosmetics since we're dealing with a 22lr? Not ever having dealt with or shot anything with a suppressor, I really don't know the answer to this: Does a suppressor carry out the rifling to its length or does it end at the adapter because of baffling?

I actually think it would be cool to have a suppressor for the lack of noise but really don't know the difference or advantages of a permanent mounting or using an adapter other than being able to move it from weapon to weapon; but I am at a loss as to why shortening things up is so desired.

Oooops, this was a thread about OAL.....sorry.....I'm just taken by the number of GSG'ers that want to shorten things up and as to why.

Certainly accuracy and velocity will be adversely affected by shortening the barrel. I have yet to come across any "range reports" pertaining specifically to SBR'd gsg's other than "mine shoots a little high" or "anything beyond 50 yards is all luck" and so on. I plan on writing one up after my form 1 is returned on my PK.

To answer your question about SBR'ing a 5p, absolutely. In fact, it is a FAR smarter way to go. An approved form 1 for a 5p necessitates no more "screwing around" than just screwing on the stock. DONE. I think the majority of carbine owners who now wish to SBR their carbines simply did not foresee their eventual plans or; gobbled up the first run of carbines before the 5p/5pk were released. The reasons for wanting to shorten the GSG, I think, are obvious. These guns are .22 plinkers and serious accuracy (as serious as you can get out of a .22 anyway) is not it's purpose. You buy this gun because you can't afford a real MP5. That's why GSG (wisely) spend so much time on their appearance. Personally, I think the carbine looks kinda funny with that huge can hanging off the end. The first time I layed eyes on the GSG I thought SBR! I'm not sure I would have even bought my PK if SBR'ing wasn't possible.

What a great answer!  I had not given any thought to the timeline of the release of the different products. That's why I felt that I was missing out on something on the effort and expense guys were going thru. It was kind of reverse logic to me.

Thanks for straightening things out.

Probably not the place to conitnue this, but does a suppressor have a fall off as well. I'm really taken with the accuracy of the carbine and I just wondered if it's an expensive tradeoff, sound over accuracy considering another $500+ expense?

So.... No one here has a measurement of their GSG folded and open? No GSG stocks, no CA stocks........?

Send me an address if you need a tape or ruler and instructions

Thanks, I was looking more towards the rifle version to help with all the questions that pop up about legalaties of length.

But the SBR info helps too, I may be acquiring a 5PK soon, and then SBR'ing it shortly after

I thought that even if you have a colasping or folding stock. the length measurement is taken when the stock is unfolded/extended.

That's how the Feds and some states measure OAL.

Other states measure with the stock folded/collapsed.

GSG-5 carbine with OEM collapsible stock, fully extended, measured muzzle to the farthest point at the top of the stock: 32 3/8"

With the stock collapsed, measured muzzle to the farthest point at the top of the stock: 26 1/4"
