Any opinions on the Barska 2 x 30 red dot sight? I have heard some of the Aimpoint clones have brightness problems and the Barska would give me at least some magnification. (old eyes, you know...)
Will it mount on the typical low mount picatinny weaver rails? Thanks |

yes, I would like some slight magnification to shoot out to 50 yards more easily, but maintain an unlimited eye relief and a wider field of view downrange. Perhaps I'd be better off with a scope without the red dot, if it provided unlimited eye relief and a decent field of view.
The holosight looks nice, but I was interested in something with a 1.5 or 2 power magnification. I have also found several red-dots with screw-on lenses that magnify a bit. That might come in handy and make the optics more versatile - but how sturdy are these screw on types? Regards |

OK, here is another possibility...
Hammers 2x42mm Red Dot Anyone hear or have experience with this company or specific red dot? http://www.airsoftretreat.com/reviews/showproduct.php?product=157&cat=44 It has a detachable lense for magnification. Thanks again, Joe |

Thanks again, Joe I have seen that review before and was interested but it always comes down to ME not wanting to depend on batteries in a gun. |

Don't all red dot scopes require a battery?
With your comment, I'll presume you prefer a regular telescopic sight, rather than a red dot sight? I suppose it depends on what you want to do with your gun. What sort of range are you shooting at? Distance? Need wider field of view, as per "combat shoots"? Need unlimited eye relief for quick sighting? Both types of scopes certainly have their pros and cons. Of course, one could always take a spare battery, they are pretty small and cheap... Joe |

I have decided to purchase the Hammers over the Barksa, since the former has a detachable magnifying lense. I have read that the magnifiers make things a tad blury at close ranges, under 30 ft. So if one intends on targeting close up, it would be beneficial to remove the magnifier lenses, making the Hammers more versatile... We'll see how the magnifier looks at 50 or so feet out, compared with a 1x red dot.
If anyone is interested in knowing, let me know and I'll "review" it. Regards |

Don't all red dot scopes require a battery? Not as such. There are sights that use a fiber optic line that runs into the sight to pass the light into it, augmented with (as I understand it) either tritium or a battery depending on lighting conditions. I've seen the *drools* trijicons that use this, I just can't justify spending THAT kind of money for optics. I'd like to... and the minute I win the lottery, I'll be going on a spree... but not right now. linky to trijicon ACOG info Then again, would this really be a red-dot? Hmmm... I dunno - I do know that I want one. |

I dunno - I do know that I want one. Choad- I've actually got that optic on a quick disconnect mount on my AR15 Next time we go shooting I'll pop it on the GSG5 for shits and giggles. For our competition on Sunday though, I have Jeff's Eotech Magnifier behind my Eotech on the rifle (he doesn't have a rifle to put the magnifier on yet, so he's letting me use it on mine for now). Still about $800 worth of optics on this stupid toy .22. Should be illegal to have this much fun And Trijicon does have more traditionally styled (and MUCH cheaper) red dots on their website. Still pretty good hunk of change for a toy .22. |

So... if that trijicon is on a QD on your AR-15... that means that you won't be using it on Sunday...
Hmm... I've got rails now... What's your plans for tomorrow? D'you mind loaning that out? Do you wanna go plinking tomorrow and see if we can get it sighted in? Just a thought.... Like you said, it oughta be illegal, but it ain't. |

Yeah, I cant see dropping $1000 for an optic to put on a $500 gun, either AIM Reflex Sight http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b100/89Sunbird/GSG-5/Dsc_04.jpg Did the AIM Reflex mount directly to the GSG5 or did you need an adaptor or rail attachment to get it to mount properly? |

Might be able to do that; if it's not TOO early; I have no intention of going to bed at a decent hour tonight. Rio I presume? I also haz no .22 ammo; do you have enough for tomorrow or should I pick some up on the way there? |

What kind of stock is that, I like the look of it? The pic above your post is the factory OEM fixed stock. I opted for this style over the collapsible version for mine as well. LOL...So many people change theirs out that most people dont even know what the real one looks like anymore |

Thanks, I'll have to do some more research on them. I'm thinking of putting a scope on it, but I'd prefer a smaller one so it doesn't overwhelm the already-small carbine. Regards "overwhelm"?? What do you mean? lolololol http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/2893/gsgbigscopegd1.jpg which specific mount is that? links? |

Here's a cheaper alternative to the ACOG:
Bushnell Trophy MP Red Dot Sight 30mm Tube 1x 32mm 3 MOA http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=859535 I was considering getting one for my AR. It would probably look good on a GSG, and the price is right (150). |

And Trijicon does have more traditionally styled (and MUCH cheaper) red dots on their website. Still pretty good hunk of change for a toy .22. I don't know about the toy part. The GSG looks like pretty serious hardware. The other day I put an older Tasco red dot on my GSG, zero'd it and within 20 rounds it whigged out and started shooting a foot high and 6" left at 25 yds. My cheap optics numbers are slowly decreasing through attrition. My Leupolds, Redfields and older Weavers are still going strong.
The best .22 scope I ever used was one of the last "El Paso" steel Weaver scopes in 2x and the wide TV lens. Still regret selling it as they are really hard to find to replace. |

This one is mine. The scope is NCStar 6x42 Tactical. Just right magnification for 50 meters "varmint" shooting.
