So I've got about 500 rounds through it so far, and since new, this little piece here seems to want to hold the bolt open whenever I try to close it.  When I insert a full mag, or try to close the bolt with the nag removed, 95 percent of the time I have to hit my hand into the bottom of the front handguard to get the action closed.  Sometimes, i can just stick my finger in there, push it down, and it will then allow the bolt to close.

Any ideas on what could be causing this to hang up?

If I am not mistaken that is a bolt hold open......

Indeed it is.  However, I dont think it should be holding the bolt open when I release the charging handle after inserting a new mag.

Anyone see something missing in that pic???

The bolt hold spring is missing.  See the GSG General Tacked Thread towards the very bottom about the bolt hold spring.

Good eye.

Must have fallen out when he cleaned it.

Well, good thing I posted a pic then

Thanks for the quick answers.  Now, does anyone know where I can get a replacement?

Thanks

There may be an answer in the general tacked thread.

I was wondering if a cut down spring from a ball-point pen would work.

some ball point pen springs may work.  if you take out the mag disconnect spring you can use that one too i think, but it needs to be cut down as well.

I believe it just about should.  If I recall when I measured it once, it was 3mm (about 1/8 inch) diameter & 11mm long.  A decent hardware store with a spring assortment display should have something also, at least until you get one from GSG.

Thanks again.  Maybe my manual has the part number in it.  I got that email contact saved from the thread you liked me to Jackal.

Heres the gun.  I think the F-ACOG is a bit high.  I'll see whats up when I shoot it.

You can get a pack of ten springs for $5.79 from MSC Industrial Supply. Look under compression springs and find the diameter you need and look at the free length and max poundage. 1/8 X 1/2 @ 4-5 lb. might do it.

OR...you can make your life easy and go ahead and contact Ray over at AmChar ([email protected]), he will gladly send you a new spring.  What i did with mine when i had this issue was use a small amount of something similair to JB weld to hold the top of the spring in place...SO i no longer lose this spring.
