Looks like everyone is getting pretty much the same low profile rail, but I
was wondering if you guys had seen any longer rail systems. I Think I am
going to go with an AimPoint clone and was considering getting
an AimPoint Magnifier clone as well but I dont think they would both
fit on these rails.

There is an airsoft rail system that goes all the way to the front sight....

It's called a Nitro Vo. mount or something like that, but it also covers the rear sight (i.e you have to take it off). I believe the full length one is discontinued, but they make one that's meant for a MP5k. It's over 10" long, still.

ETA: Google image search comes up with:

Since that front end is a seperate piece, I don't see an issue with just not installing it.

I will take a look at one when I am in LA Airsoftextreme.  It looks really cool.  Evike is also in the greater LA area and may be a nice stop on my way out to the airport.

I was planning to get dimensions on the GSG-5 set up and compare it to the airsoft RIS offerings.  If people want to consolidate a list, I will look at it and confirm dimensions of stuff we've only seen on websites.

ETA: No promises though but I'll do my best.

If you go with that setup, make sure that the magnifier and the scope line up. Some of the cantiliver mounts place the scope elevated by 2 mm thus making them not line up exactly. This is the case if you go with clones of both. The twist-off mag mount is slightly lower that the commonly available (Ebay) setup.

you know WHY the difference is heights is dont you ?

IIRC whatever the newest EOTECH is is 2 mm higher in the base than the 511 and the magnifiers were designed for the newer models

I found this and ordered it:
www.trinityairsoft.com/p-147-mp5-rail-sleeve-by-nitro.aspx
Seems like it will work ok, Nitro manufacture for the MP5, not the K version.
I'll be doing some serious work when my GSG-5 gets here on Wednesday and will post back with pics and the such.

I dropped by Airsoftextreme today in LA (Torrance).  They did not have the Nitro - sold out but I got my CA B&T UMP folder!  I can't wait to put it on.

My GSG-5 arrived today, after careful close examination I'm not sure that the Nitro full length top rail will work.  More specifically I'm not sure it will allow the charging handle to roll into the upper position for slap to rock mode.  Will post back when it arrives on thurs-fri
