New Infidel on the right.

This is my second auto knife and first otf.  I was on the fence between Microtech and the Benchmade, but I own several bm knives so I stayed loyal to the brand.

I've had the Infidel in hand 6 days and it's on it's way back to benchmade tomorrow for repair.  Every 6th or 7th attempt to deploy the blade results in a misfire.

Hopefully they can fix it or replace it altogether.  Anyone else experience similar problems with the Infidel?

Mine started out fine but it got to where it would not lock open all the time. I sent it back and now it is a little better, but not perfect. Still messes up sometimes. It seems to be real sensitive to any thing that slows the blade... Like moving the handle while opening it. I dont carry mine much  anymore because of this...

Yeah if a penny got stuck in mine it took a lot of work to get it out.... Had to be sure not to put change in my knife pocket.. Another reason i stopped carrying it.... If I planned to try to carry it, or another otf I would ger a kydex pocket sheath made for it...

Well shit, I was hoping to make it one of my edc knives.  Given my experience with it being brand new and malfunctioning, and the stories you guys share, I think I will stick to a more basic edc knife.  I will carry this one in the sheath.

Open it up and fix it yourself.

Smooth up tooling marks, gunk, lint. Then clean with lighter fluid and barely lube the main moving components.

Though if you do want a new edc then buy a MicroTech side auto.

I've had three Infidels.  They all had to go back home.  Misfires, off tracks.  Hated the button placement.  They are gone.  Microtechs ever since for OTF.  My Scarab has dual springs and a very positive action.  BM makes good side autos.  I have several.

Autos.. Greatest strength is also there strongest weakness.

I'm sure BM will take care of you.

I blast mine thoroughly with silicone lube and let it run out the drain to flush the crap inside. Then I'll blow it out with compressed air to ensure its clean. After that, it always runs perfectly.

Mines was ran over by a Humvee. Sent it back to Benchmade and they fixed it right up.

I live in the same state so I just go to Oregon City and they just work on it.

It was sloppy when I first got it but they fixed it right up and has never failed me before.

Used it and it got its first blood on a feral dog attacking a friends dog.

Did the job just fine.

kind of a knife noob... can anyone get a auto? or only .mil / LEO?

Nevada is a pretty good state for gun laws, never looked into knife laws.. didn't even know what a auto knife was.

Apparently NV sucks for auto knives

I'll just live vicariously through you guys

I carry mine all the time and I've had no issues.

Before you send it back, try blowing it out with compressed air, followed by aerosol Rem oil, then compressed air again. That's why the little square hole in the end of the handle is there.

I've had mine for a while and it's not firing as hard as it used to, sometimes it fails to lock open. I'm sure I just need to take it apart and clean it, probably has some junk slowing it down inside. I played with a Microtech Combat Troodon the other day and now I want to get one of those, it fired way harder than my Infidel and was single edged so I could carry legally here in Texas. Of course I think OTF knives look way cool, but just aren't as practical as a good folder. I love my Emerson wave knife for a good EDC blade, never have to worry about springs wearing out or anything, it'll last forever if you take care of it.

Unless you're a mechanical engineer and have four hands, I wouldn't recommend it.

Seriously, try the compressed air and oil method a couple times before you try taking it apart.

OP should have went microtech,

I don't understand the hype behind the infidel, it's fatter and the microtech feels so much better in you hands and I prefere the microtech action.

Also unless you get the right one I think the blade is made out of D2 steel, where as the microtech would have been s30v or elmax

I like BM but I hate that they charge so much to use cheaper steels on knives.

I handled a friend's microtech last week, and I like it a lot.  His knife had double springs in it.  First I'd ever heard of the double springs but the action felt very strong.

I suspect my next off will be a MT.  I will wait and see how the BM acts when I get it back.  I will probably relegate the Infidel to carry only in a sheath.

You have to carry it and use it.
Those look pretty pristine.
