| Lookin for a decent everyday carry knife. If it folds, id prefer spring assisted. Fixed blade id prefer belt mounted plastic sheath. Also suggestions on a a good way to sharpen it is appreciated. Id like to keep it under 60 if possible, can go higher if its worth it. Doesn't matter to me if its straight blade or serrated. Thanks guys. |

Rat-1 folder.
Good blade shape, flicks open well (not spring assisted, but opens like it is), good size, comes in coated or uncoated, serrated or non. AUS-8, but sharpens to a scapel if you want. Learn to use a strop and you will be able to get and keep that sucker laser sharp with very little effort. They run about $25-30 depending on where you buy. Only downsides are that the blade isn't a better steel (if you care about that sort of thing), and it's kind of heavy. Can be had with G10 handles if you pay $45-50. (rat-1A) The only reason I don't carry one is that I got some golden made spyderco's for $25-30 a few years back at the factory blem sale, so I don't need any folders (I've got 4 at the moment). For a fixed blade, a Rat-3 (ontario version of ESEE-3, not really a copy, more of a technicality due to the way ESEE and Ontario were related back in the day). Handle is a little smaller than the esee-3, but for daily carry that's actually kind of nice. Runs about $60. 1095 steel. Plastic sheath. I use a lansky sharpening system from 100-1000 grit, then I strop with a strop loaded with polishing compound to remove the (refined) burr. |
