I just started looking around at getting a good quality 3.5-3.75" fixed blade for EDC. In my search I read about many different steel properties.
I stumbled on Esee 3 as well as Halloran 360 and a few others but am going back and forth on these two.
For the money the Esee looks hard to beat. On the other hand the Halloran knives are 01 tool steel and look amazing but are twice the price.
Any one have any experience on quality custom knives and what I would be getting for the extra $$$?
They both come with Kydex sheaths mounted the way I would like.
Would be using it for everyday stuff in Afghan or where ever the next war is.

I know this isn't one of your original options, but just wanted to toss it out there - D2 is a better overall steel than 1095, but not as good at chopping.  With I believe their 15% military discount, you can get this configured how you want and may be a better purchase based on the Esee @ $110

I'd go with an ESEE for military work.  Cheap and they work well.  You'll get a hundred different recommendations from a hundred different guys... especially when you open the door up to customs.  There are a ton of great makers, and great factory options.  Some are better than others, but most will get the job done.

Look at the USN if you want to explore customs, lots of great makers on there, and lots of traffic in the cove (their EE).

Military pricing on the ESEE 3 and 4 is the same and the discount is pretty nice.  If you don't have the price list already, just shoot them an email.

Carried a strider with me.  Used it to pry multiple things open, including a door, and cut stuff.  It made an OK pry bar and an OK knife.  Lost it during a dismount.  Replaced it with an Esee which makes a great vest knife, and a axe for abusing in the vic.  I do carry a Strider SNG in my pocket.  Hope this helps!

For the money, ESEE can't be beat.  As someone else mentioned, if you tear it up trying to pry a brick out of the side of your house, they don't give a shit you send it to them they send you a new one.

ESEE.  Great knife, great warranty, tough as nails.  Just remember to oil it every so often.

ESEE is hard to beat for the price... Even harder to beat with the LEO/MIL discount they are kind enough to give to those who serve.
