Currently, I carry a half-serrated, Kershaw "whirl-wind" that I received as a gift a couple years ago. HERE's the knife.

It isn't a bad knife, but I want to change it up and get something new as it is getting a little old and beat.

I have used in the past, the CRKT M16-13SFG seen HERE, and the CRKT M16-14ZSF seen HERE

My budget is $75 to $100. I do have a "wish-list" for it. I prefer a plain edge over the serrated. I also prefer the textured G10 handles. It must have a pocket clip, but I do not care tip-up or tip-down. The size of my current Kershaw is good, about 4 1/2" closed.

As to finish, I don't really care. Black or Stainless blade is fine.

I was looking at the Benchmade Bone Collector Axis folder with the plain edge and green / black handles, as seen HERE, but they are a tad higher then I was looking to spend, and a little bigger than my current EDC. I could go with the "mini" version, which would drop the price a little and also reduce the size.

I don't abuse my knives and I use them for intended uses, opening boxes, opening packages, cutting things etc. I don't pry or anything like that with them.

With all these bits of information in mind, what would you guys suggest?

Thanks!

Not sure if it meets all your criteria but the cold steel recon 1 i have is a damn rugged knife in that price range.

Spyderco Endura, Delica, Tenacious get my vote. You can find some enduras and delicate in G10 or buy custom scales and install them.

Start looking in the EE.

Buy a used knife and save yourself some cash while getting a higher quality knife.

$100 will get you a Gayle Bradley Spydervco or Zero Tolerance 0350, if you are patient you might find a Benchmade 940 or maybe an Emerson.

The CRKT are OK but once you see the better build quality and use something with a decent blade you will never go back to buying cheap knives.

The people selling the more expensive knives in the EE and other Blade Forums generally have very good descriptions and quality pictures.

You know what you are getting and there are no surprises. I have never been disappointed buying used.

So for $100 I would go:

Gayle Bradley Spyderco (great design and awesome steel)

Benchamde 940 or 943 (maybe tougher to find for $100 but worth it)

ZT0350 great quality with good blades. They are little tanks.

This is good advice. A few months ago I bought a LNIB Benchmade 710 in the rare M390 super steel for $120 shipped.

Thank you all for the great advice. Yes, the CRKT's are decent knives and have handled everything I've thrown at them just fine (granted, the use I throw at them isn't much). I do want to step up into the next tier of blade though.

As for the EE, I've shopped there before, and yes, I have gotten good deals on good knives.

However, my girlfriend is asking me to give her ideas for Christmas, so I figured now would be a good time to ask for blade "x". Would obviously be easier to tell her an off-the-shelf blade rather than "watch the classifieds for one of these".

I just jumped onto Blade HQ, and they have the larger Axis for 102, and the Mini Axis for 92, so those would work. The reason I was looking at them is that I've handled them and like them. I will have to look into the others that you have suggested. Out of curiosity, how are these knives and how do they stack up?

Save the coin and buy from the Kershaw blem guy, a blur for $35 is the best buy out there right now. I don't have the link but will post when I get home if somebody doesn't.

I have seen them in the EE and other forums that sell stuff for 100 bucks. Hell I have 3 PM2's that I bought for under 100, you just have to look

Let me open your eyes, young knife lover:

www.knifeworks.com

go here, enter the discount code in the description of the item, profit.

you can get a full sized griptilian for like $65, 300SN flipper black/blue g10 for $105ish, 275 Adamas for $119, etc.

best benchmade pricing in the business.

the Benchmade Bone Collector you linked to is $94 on this site for the large one with green/black g10. Enjoy the world of knives; good luck buying just one.

This man speaks the truth.  I've ordered probably 8 knives from KW.  The owner seems to be a good guy and the shipping is very fast.

Hard to go wrong with Spyderco in your price range.  They have been my EDC for many years now and have never failed me.

I think I'm going to pick up the SKD model ZT for my next carry blade.  My only hesitation is that it may be a bit large for pocket carry in the pants I have to wear at work.
