Ok...so i want to build a naginata (japanese spear-sword thingy, pictured above), and i want it to be a bit more...modern and custom than simply having a 20 inch sword blade on a stick. Here is what i am thinking of doing... For the blade i will cannibalize the blade from the CAS Hanwei Banshee sword. Not quite traditional, but i have one and it is a really good sword. I would gladly sacrifice another for the project. Will also provide me with a lock-on sheath. I could try to make my own blade, but i'm not any good at that, yet, and i know this is a good product. The sword... 
The haft will be more complex. The core will be spring steel round stock 4.5 ft long. Half inch diameter. That will have a deep nock (11 inches) in it where the blade will be fitted and pinned. I am going to buy some Cold Steel escrima sticks and cut them in half longways, then cut a channel in them (so the cross section forms a C). These will go around the steel core, and will be pinned in place. I think the core, while adding some weight, will add enough ridgidity, but keep flex without memory. The polypro handle is resistant to warping and weathering, and light. I will shave the haft so it has an overall oval cross section, for blade control. I will add a but cap if necessary for balance. I don't know when i will be able to start this project, but i am already fairly excited. I would welcome any tips, and if anyone sees any obvious problems, please point them out. Thanks!
