Hi all I got a $25.00 amazon.com gift card for Christmas and I'm looking at a budget EDC knife. I carry a Kershaw Blur Tanto blade as of right now but wanting something different. I also hate the tanto blade and I wish I would have never bought it. So this is my problem, I have $25 bucks and at the most I can go over it is like $5.00 bucks. I know, I know save up and get something really good but I'm not going to pay high dollar for a knife and I can't do it.

I would like to have a blade close to 3" as I can get and would like one as close to 4" if I could find it.

The models I'm looking at-
CRKT-
Lake 111 $20
Drifter G10
M-16
M-21

Kershaw-
Nerve
Scamp
Chill
Half Ton

Spyderco-
Persistence
Tenacious G-10
Cara Cara 2

Ka-Bar-

Dozier (there are two different models and I'm looking at them both.

So there is my list so far and I'm open to any and all folders for EDC $25 to at the most $30 dollars limit. Thanks everyone.

CRKT M-16 is my work knife. Just hit the screws that hold the pocket clip on with some locktight and it's ready to roll.

I've got a M16 and have had a couple others as well, nice quality for not much money.
I've also got a couple of the Nerves and I really like that one too.
For that money if it were me I'd go for the Nerve just because I've used one, nice and grippy, and you'll probably have a little gift card left over.

I know you say you don't want to drop a bunch of money on a knife, but if you save or add just $25 more to your budget, that opens up a HUGE array of high quality knives you can be sure would last you a lifetime.

If you like the blade on the Nerve, check out the Kershaw Ram. Similar blade design and can be had for mid $50s depending on which one you get, been thinking of picking one up myself.

Tenacious would be my pick out of that group for a pocket knife, I used one exclusively for 6 months as an experiment, great knife.

Kershaw Skyline

You'll like the blade, very practicle shape for EDC.  easy open, slim, light weight, and strong.  Not to mention Kershaw's out of the box edge.

+1 for the Spyderco Tenacious. I recently got one. I've never ownd a spyderco, but after experiencing the quality of the $35 Tenacious, i will be buying more spydercos. The Tenacious is a great deal.

How do you like the way it opens up? I have been eyeing that one like a hawk. I just don't know about the way it opens and it seems to be a lot more EDC type knives are opening up that way.

I have a trade deal on a spyderco tenacious g10. The guy that I'm trading with has a used one and has always treated me right on trades. We traded some M16 pouches and some other surplus gear. he is going to redo the blade (just sharpen it up) and I may see if I can get the grips replaces from Spyderco. They are scratched up a little nothing major.  This guy can put an edge on a knife that is wicked. I can never get one that sharp.

I just kind of lucked into this one and I'm going to enjoy. They guy is like a brother to me so I will keep it as well.

This is what I carry. Be sure to use loc-tite, like he says. I lost one of my screws before I did it. Decent knife for the price.

The steel on the tenacious dulls just a little bit too quickly for my tastes but it is a VERY easy knife to not only get sharp, but to get REALLY sharp

It's a little stiff getting it started with your index finger but once it moves a little it flips open just as fast as every other kershaw with speedsafe.

I love my Tenacious also but wait till you get a couple more bucks and get a Spyderco ParaMilitary 2 It is made in the USA not like the Tenacious which was licensed out and made in China, not to say it is a bad thing but the PM2 made here in the USA is GREAT. Paid 100 bucks for the PM2 but you get the best in Quality and the weight difference between the 2 is crazy, not to mention the CPM S30V blade steel. Save up, you will not regret it.

Here are some of my Spyderco's, Resilience on top then the Tenacious

And my EDC that never leaves my side and probably one of the Best that Spyderco makes, The ParaMilitary 2

I've never been real big on Spyderco, but I must say that PM2 is pretty damn sexy!
May have to see about picking one of those up, looks like it has a nice feel to it too.

I've had my Spyderco Endura (series 1 ) for going on 20 years now and it's never broken, always works and I can sharpen it reasonably sharp (my lack of sharpening skillz ).  I highly recommend the Endura.  My bud has the 4 model plain blade and it's excellent!  Amazon has 'em for $58 but you can dig around and maybe find one a little cheaper.

I'm not a big fan of Nutnfancy but I've been watching his knife videos.  The Spyderco I got in trade I'll use and also I may pick up a Skyline not sure yet.

Walmart Carries it, if you want to see one in person.  I really do like it.  Especially how fast the action is,  just a small flick of the thumb tab and the thing is locked open like lightning. Blade has a nice point and is very sharp.  I opted for the Serrated, as i find it fairly handy.  The weight is good too, i wear Khakis and Dress Pants every day and it doesnt print in my pocket.

Yep, I love this knife, too. I have carried it the last year or more and have had no issues other than trying to reverse the pocket clip - but that was because I don't have the right size torx bit. I think Kershaw will even provide the bit if you ask them. The Smith Pocket Pal sharpener works really well on my Skyline, too. After about 10 strokes through both the carbide and ceramic portions, the knife is sharp enough to shave.

I also have a Blur, but haven't had to sharpen it yet - the Skyline gets used the most.

the volt II is a fantastic blade. the tenacious and CKRT drifter are also very good.
i was actually surprised by the CKRT drifter..i really like it..nice all around blade especially for the price.
id also look at the Buck nobleman as its very close to the drifter and a very nice litte knife.

I carry the smaller M16 with the non-serrated blade often.  Along with lock tight, I bend the tab on that infernal "auto-lawk" to re-enable one handed operation.

I have only had the Volt II for about a week, and got the partially serrated because that is the one they had (I prefer plain edge) at the Bass Pro counter when I went in to spend my Christmas gift card, but I REALLY LIKE it a lot.  I have a few nice knives (Emerson/Benchmade Specwar, etc), but this may be it for EDC for me. Even beats out my other more expensive USA made, G10 handled Kershaws because of the way it fits my hand and how authoritatively it snaps out and locks up.

I have one of the small CRKT M16 knives and I must be the only one who absolutely hates it.  If you open it too hard the liner lock goes too far and you can't close the blade unless you use a screwdriver to pry the liner lock away.  If you tighten the screw that keeps that from happening then it's really hard to open and you need two hands.

I definitely recommend any of the Kershaw knives with speedsafe.  The first time opening my Leek got me hooked and I can never go back to manual openers.

I've had excellent results from both Kershaw and Spyderco.

In the price range you're looking at, I honestly don't think it matters much. Any of the names brands will fit your needs. Even Buck, Gerber, CRKT...

Get one that fits what you want to do with it, and keep it sharp. I've found that keeping a good edge on a cheaper knife helps it last longer before getting relegated to the junk drawer, truck console, or hunting pack.

I have not bought one yet. I am going to start a new thread to narrow my two choices down for my gift card. I want to get the most bang for the buck. I did get in a trade a Spyderco
Tenacious G-10. I traded some surplus gear for it and the only thing it needs is sharpend (the guy is doing that before he sends) and the grips have some scrapes on it but not a big deal.

Im looking at the

CRKT M21-02 amazon.com just marked it down to 26.39
CRKT Drifter

Kershaw Clash
Kershaw Scamp

The clash and M21 not sure what one I like or would be better. The M21 came down a good deal on price.

The Skyline is just out of my budget right now unless I sell something.

I just placed my order and I went with the CRKT M21-02. I went with a heavier weight knife. I know after having a stroke and a muscle diese it helps having some more weight to the knife. I feel I made a great choice, wish I made it sooner it would have been $4.00 bucks cheaper.
