In reviewing some knife laws per state, it seems across the board that a 3 inch folder is pretty safe bet for carry (except on planes, etc.).  I want to give one as a gift but don't want the person to get in a jam if it ever gets addressed.  What say the knowledge base here, and is there a more recent side with the culmination of knife laws (my source was 1996)?

Thank you-

This looks like a good site.  Beware that municipalities can make their own laws.

3 inches is fine. Most places won't give him too much trouble.

I just went thru this here in Texas.

Texas law says blade under 5.50" in length, from handle to tip, is LEGAL.

CITY LAW (Im in Corpus Christi "the chicken-eye of Texas" right now), says 3.5" MAX in length, from handle to tip.

SO, Municipalities can be different than State laws.
