Didnt see a sharpeing section so I figured I would put this here.  Whitch side of the strop do yuo use to put the final edge on a knife? The soft side ( the inside of the cow) or the hard side (the outside of the cow)? and whitch side do you put honing compund or jewlers rouge on?

The smooth (hard) side is for finishing.

I use the compound on the suede side only, but you can use it on both sides. My personal "compound" is just the dust off my stones. As I sharpen, I wipe the dust off on the suede.

That make sense?

Just make sure the burr is full length. I couldn't tell you how many times I missed a spot.

I use the hard side for the compound and glue the soft side to a piece of wood. But, I use some fine grit sandpaper and sand the hard side some to make it "fuzzy" before I put compound on it. I use Bark River coupound BTW. Works great.

Don't have one yet, but the inside of a medium quality leather belt and some Dremel metal polish does a pretty bang up job. Just got to keep the right tension on it (lots). I shaved with my Skyline after I was done sharpening it like this.
