Lusted after this knife as a kid.  Totally love the concept (even if it'd take a cold day in hell to need it).   I bought a Chris Reeve Mark 4 a couple of years ago. I love the single body construction and the A2 steel. Are there any other fixed blade good steel versions of knives like these?   Would love to see the opinions out there. You guys seem pretty-damn sharp with this stuff (pun intended)!

The reason I ask, is that I've toyed with buying a 184 on ebay. I just wonder if I'd be disappointed with the steel (given that they are approaching 25 years old).   That A2 stuff is tough to sharpen, but it really does hold an edge.  Any thoughts?

I have the 185(buckmaster lite) which is the same blade.  Got it when I was a kid, about 23 years ago and I abused it as a kid would.  Punched it through sheet metal, cut down small trees etc.  I got it out recently and it was still relativeley sharp, but I sharpened it up and have contemplated actually putting it on my warbelt.

i have one it has sat in a drawer since i got it. i have never used it.  it is a massive knife.  i even have the sheath and compass that came with it.  let me know if you are interested in it.  i think it's trade name is the buckmaster.

If you are looking at the Buck 184, you would be doing yourself a huge favor by also looking at the Gerber BMF.
