How many of you carry a fixed blade as a daily carry?
more importantly what kind of knife and sheath do you prefer to use? how and where do you carry it? I'm asking because I'm am looking into the karambit style of knife as a defense tool to carry as back up, seems a good fixed knife to weakside carry to create distance between you and an attacker so you can draw your firearm. What are your thoughts here? Rob |

Possibly look into one of these. Interesting idea. |

i just about always carry a fixed blade. i also carry a folder (or balisong), as a "secondary", but the fixed blade will ALWAYS be my main knife. i love and trust the simplicity.
for years, i carried a Benchmade Nimravus, in a 2 Munkeez IWB behind my strongside hip. now, feeling like i might need a heavier duty knife, i carry an ESEE 5 in the stock sheath (for now) at the same location. |

I carry one of my own Honor Mk VI's with a 6" blade, weak side in a kydex holster set up for IWB carry. It rides with me everywhere backing up my HK USP compact.
One of these days I'll get around to making a sheath for it with a mag carrier molded in it also. ETA- although a Karambit seems like a good idea, I want to carry something that if need be and the opening arises, I can plunge deep and hit something vital. I don't like dancing to begin with, and dancing around playing slashing games with someone armed with a knife is not my idea of a fun date. Just like "carry enough gun," "carry enough knife" also rings true. |

I think a fixed blade in a kydex sheath with a spare mag would be the cats meow It just seemed to me, using the weak side knife to create distance to allow you to draw your strong side pistol, just something to get them back to allow a person to draw was all that I was thinking about. It wouldn't take the place of my folding edc carried either in my front pocket or my hip pocket, depending on what rig is being used. Thanks Rob |
| Buck Paklite 140. It will out cut anything in its class. I have the Becker and three Izula's and they are not in the same league as the 140. I've tested them in side by side comparisons. I didn't say it would work as well as a pry bar, shovel, or hammer; it will out cut them in wood and meat. The sheath isn't great but for under $20 a reasonable person can't complain. |

Bigcraig -
that's funny because i always thought that was a pretty cool name, but the design is not something i'm into. nothing against yer knife, i'm sure it's great, i just don't like the design. then again, i think i might be the only LEO in the world who doesn't like the Kabar TDI. so, i'm sure it's just me |

I am not a fan of the TDI either, I think the "bend" is too aggressive, well for my tastes anyway.
What I like about this knife is the sturdiness of the blade, it is very "thick", and I like the fact that the top of the blade also has an edge to it. My friends have renamed the knife "Mr. Slashy McStabby".

I carry this; http://mlknives.com/sitebuilder/images/muckstag-385x162.jpg I use a vertical classical leather sheath provided my Matt Doc Man I like it ! Its a whole lot easier for me to push my daily carry work knife in to use as a weapon, its much harder for me to push a weapon in to daily use as a tool. |

Reading this article (below) motivated me to purchase and start wearing a desert tan CRKT Hissatsu.
Previously I hadn't really considered a fixed for concealed carry, but it works out nicely. Cold: http://www.deathvalleymag.com/2010/08/21/urban-survival-concealed-carrying-a-large-fixed-blade-knife-daily/#more-4787 |

Chris Reeve Green Beret in a concealed Survival Sheath Systems kydex rig. I wear it in the same spot that my 1911 usually occupies, and I've got it set up for a reverse grip draw. it hardly shows the tip of the scabbard under my ACU top, but it's still faster than trying to load a mag, charge the weapon, take it off safe and deal with anyone who might come up on you in the dark. We don't get sidearms, so this is the next best thing.
