| I am almost positive this has been covered before but I did a search and nothing turned up. I am heading off to college very soon and it is permissable there to carry a knife. Here at home I have a few different knives I carry for different scenarios. What I want is a knife that will stand up to 4-5 years of edc doing everything you could ask a folding knife to do. It will ride in my waistband when I run, in my pocket around town, in my swimming trunks when I swim and if it comes down to it save my life in a defensive encounter. I have been considering the Strider SNG or the Chris Reeve Large Sebenza. What would you guys say? Also, I have no problem paying the money if these knives are worth it but if they arent then what are some better options? |

Just saw this last night. I don't have a sebenza, but they both look good. |
| I have a Strider SNG that I picked up about a month ago. It's only been a short period of EDC but I would recommend that knife to anyone. Thick blade, extremely solid lockup, way lighter than expected and the edge is holding strong through regular cutting duties (I haven't run into a need to abuse the blade yet). Never checked out a CRK Sebenza though so I'm biased. |

I would go with Reeve anything over a Strider. Actually I would go with just about any damn thing over a Strider. But I may be a little more particular about who gets my money. i dont own a strider but have been considering one of there fixed blades...why are you so negative toward them; just curious. |

looking for other perfectly fine options or just justifying a knife with pretty low value to cost ratio? personally cost is always a concern and i look for stuff that gives me bang for my buck, these are not in that category. another issue is to carry a $500 safe queen around to slice cardboard and peal fruit seems just this side of crazy. it seems to me that some who wanted the best knives think these are because they are the most expensive they must be the best.
sorry, thats one huge butt load of crap. there are many knives that will work in the edc role that are real values. those 2 are just status symbols, its like using a gold money clip or diamond cufflinks. just more bling. but if havin an expensive knife is worth it for the "rub your nose in it" factor, which to me is the far left wing of coolness, go for it, either one will do. your just buying status anyway who cares if one works a little better than the other, if your smart you will just keep them in the original box and hope they go up in cost, because they will never go up in value. |
