Great job, Chris! Unique shapes and they look like they'd fill your hand. Are you selling these, or just making one for every drawer in your house? Thanks Faction7! I just started selling a few months ago. I like serving our Military and LEO wicked looking steel....;-) I can't seem to keep any for myself....hopefully one day that will change...LOL Might need to hire me a slave robot ![]()
Thanks for the kind words buddy! Stay safe out there, Chris |

On the karambit-style blade, will you sharpen the top edge as well? And do those two grooves along the spine serve a functional purpose, or are they decorative? Looking good! Hey Dave, the top edge will be sharpened...its actually already sharp, but I coated the blade so I just need to slap it up to the grinder and clean the edges up. The groove is a single ripper...I like doing more rippers but didnt really have room and I guess it looks a little decorative...but will still rip flesh Thanks a ton for the support guys! I am not even close to the big time makers, but I am working my ass off to get there one of these years! Chris |

Chris -
How is the grip on these? It looks like a little bit of contouring on the scales would help overall comfort for the user (not sure if that is what you were referencing with the grinder comment). Very interesting blade designs. Keep up the good work - you are doing what most (including me) only talk about. |

Very interesting blade designs. Keep up the good work - you are doing what most (including me) only talk about. Hey Nocturnal, Its hard to see but I round off the sharp edges of the scales/grips. They look a little boxy in the pics but I can assure you they feel solid in the hand. I learned the hard way on that. My 3 blade I ever made was for my wife.....The grip felts like a sharp piece of plastic in the palm....LOL I now round and smooth them off for a functional grip! On the grooves, I thought he was talking about on the K-Bit looking blade along the spine and on the large chopper looking axe. My mistake if I was wrong, guess I answered two questions on this one Thanks for the kind words, Nocturnal! Its hard work, but I am learning the ropes. If only I could get my butt over to see a couple buddies. My life would be so much easier getting hands on training.

Any insight into the blade material and finishing process (heat treatment, etc)? Just wondered what your choices were and why. BTW - nice looking 1911. Thanks bud! The steel that was used on the two larger blades is 5160, the Reverse Tantos and Fal-Tacs are 0-1 steel. All steel was heat treated by Brad at Peters Heat Treat Inc. I wont attempt heat treating my own steel until I get my Evenheat.....Then its over....LOL I am working my way up into steels. I want to start using CPM's and D2's-A2's etc. once I can afford it anyway...lol But 0-1 holds a great edge too Chris |

Not sure if thats an "I want" the Kimber or the blade..lol, but I appreciate it either way Chris |

Thanks fellas! If I can say anything, anyone can make blades......being different is the hard part.
I encourage everyone to start making blades beit traditional or modern-fantasy etc. Its a blast once you start getting half way decent.
Thanks for the support guys! Chris |

Thanks guys.
I started out with a Coote 2"x 8" and bought the small wheel attachment. In my opinion it is the best entry level grinder....well I say entry level...but its an excellent grinder for the money! If I didnt want to upgrade to the KMG I just got I would still have it. Other than that, you can do a search for a NWG grinder, Polar Bear Forge also has a build your own kit. several people like building theres...I guess I was just lazy and really wanted the KMG. ]next I would recommend a drill press that goes down to at least 300rpm...I have got by with my cheap drill press...but only goes down to 600RPM and sometimes can be a pain when I hit a hard spot. Then you will need a good bandsaw-metal cutting. I bought the $200 horiz-vert from harbor freight and went with Lenox blades in a variety of TPI for different thickness of stock etc. Some guys are even making knives with a 2x42" sander and hand drills-files. I must say some of the nicest knives I have seen to date have been done with nothing other than hand tools and a good eye! I suggest jumping on: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=789 http://knifedogs.com/ Read everything you can and ask lots of questions...try and find a local maker...most are very friendly and open up there shops for any and all to learn! I myself have had to do everything the hard way by trial and error. But the more questions you ask and just jumping in and giving it a shot is the best way to learn! If you ever have any questions fire away, if I cannot answer it for you I can point you in the right direction. Best of luck! Chris |

How do you get the finish on the tang after you shape the handles? And does the kydex sheath rub the finish off? My sheaths always rub my blades. Is there a way to stop the rubbing? Sweet knives!!! You have definitly made some original designs there. And they look very handy. |

Sweet pic Jack.....LOL Love the backround pic

You have definitly made some original designs there. And they look very handy. Smithy, I pre shape handle's before coating that way I get a nice fit when its time to glue up. In some cases I decide I want to do a 550 wrap or leather. But then after wrapping I think S^&%, I should have used G-10 or similar. In that case I try and shape the handles as close as I can to the tang without removing the coating. Sometimes it works, most of the time not and end up removing coating on the tang. Then just touch up or add another coating and blend. Its all trial and error. Its a pain in the ass if you coat prior to fitting the handles. Stick to your guns and things will be just fine...LOL Thanks for the compliments. Chris |

I want to cut it out and everything definately looks like fun to me.Also I got to pick up some new files and do a little more reading. So do you think 1/8'' would be ok for a hunting knife? Yea I been looking at the my first knife posts I definately got the fever,Cant wait to post one but I got a lot more research to do before I start. Can you recommend some place to order 0-1 Thanks |
