For those of you who conceal a knife on your person when out, what sort of knife do you use as your daily carry, and how do you conceal it?

Inexpensive Gerber, don't know the name, cliped on left hand pants pocket. Benchmade Sentinal droped in right hand pocket. Lapu Lapu Corto cliped in right hand thigh pocket or droped in right hand back pocket if the pants don't have a thigh pocket. Honestly not that worried about "concealing" them but they're kind of hidden anyway with the way I carry them. Most people never really notice them, and most people don't think of them the way that people that will read this do, .

CRKT M16 (forget what model) clipped to left pants pocket. I dont really worry about "concealing" it since most people wont even notice the knive clipped to my pocket and when they do it wouldnt look out of place or really pay attaintion to it.

I carry one of two fixed blades all the time in addition to a folder. Which fixed blade I carry depends on the clothing.

My favorite in terms of effectiveness is a 7.5" CRKT Hissatsu. I carry it in the factory sheath, tip up, edge facing rearward, behinf my weak hip, right in front of the spare mag. This location is actually very secure and concealable and VERY fast. In one swift motion the knife can be drawn and slashed upward and across into an attacker's abdomen. With the size and design of the Hissatsu, this should be extremely effective and leaves me in position for downward stabs at the upper chest and sub clav area.

The second knife I carry is a CUDA CQB-II 4" fixed blade. It is also carried weak side hip in the factory Kydex sheath, although I carry it tip down, edge rearward. I generally carry it when I will be seated for long periods as the longer Hissatsu can be cumbersome when driving all day, etc.

The folder I carry is almost always a Microtech Mini SOCOM Elite 3.5" auto which is carried clipped on my strong side front pocket. When traveling to other states that don't allow autos, I carry an SOG Flash II 3.5" assisted opener or an SOG Pentagon Elite II 5" Arc-Lock folder.

Carrying a knife for concealed self defense is a nasty way to get arrested. You should think about utility and ease of carry first; then about defending yourself. And that is what you will tell the policeman when he asks you about your knife. " I carry a knife because my teeth and fingernails dont work too well for cutting things, officer."

With that in mind, carry something that you dont mind carrying all the time and is a size that wont freak out the populous. Then concentrate on strength and ease of carry and use. The rest will follow. You will have a knife at your side WHEN YOU NEED IT, and you will already have some of the familiararity with the knife using it everyday.

What do I carry? Anything 3 inches or less; sometimes even a 1/2 inch blade. A slash cut from carotid artery to the groin is one huge horendus cut and will most likely leave your attacker not wanting to continue unless he is a brain dead zombie or a berzerk PCP freak. Knowing HOW is more important than what.

Be advised that you will need to be very close to this person to use any knife and the possibility you will be hurt, increases. Your own personal intent if you use this knife for self defense is to stop the attack NO MATTER YOUR PERSONAL SAFETY and get away, nothing else.

From responding to knife calls, a 3" blade is just as deadly as a 7". Use/Familiarity/training is much more important. A knife is a last ditch weapon only, and if you get down to your 3rd or 4th knife then you are . I rarely carry two, never more than that

Not here, buddy.

My CCDW permit allows me to carry any deadly weapon I choose. So autos, daggers, fighting knives, katanas, battle axes, etc are all GTG.

Same here in FL.  You can carry any kind of a concealed weapon not just a handgun. Some states licensing requirements are very specific about the license being for a handgun only. I guess that's why here it called a Concealed Weapons Permit and in other places it's called a Concelaed Hangun License.

Not all areas of Florida even have same rules for carrying a knife on your CCW. Same with most states. Municipalities and cities alter and even mitigate away your ability to carry. The poster didn't say where he was from and where he planned to carry so I had to make a blanket statement to that aim.

Some places you can carry a machete openly without being molested; others places you can't even carry a screwdriver (LA county California). Just know the rules for the area you live and work and you should be ok. Folder or sheath knife? A folder will get you by just fine if you find one that locks up solid and is easy to carry and use. Since I make my own knives, I carry whatever i want to for the day and change it when I change what I am doing. For instance, I won't be carrying  my 13" combat tanto while in a suit. Nor will I be carrying that antique folder when swiming in the ocean.

I wasn't looking to start a fight about carrying knives, just what kind if you do. I carry a Gerber Fast Draw in my right side pocket, not expecting to ever use for anything other than a tool.

This.  I carry a variety of different folders and fixed blades, but my HAK is always with me.

can you tell me which municipalities, specifically, have ordinances that trump a permit holders right?  i find this interesting because i've been LEO in FL for quite awhile and while i do realize their are local ordinances that pertain to edged weapons, i've never heard of any that can trump a permit.

BM940P, BM941P, BM551BKODD2 or Spyderco Native clipped to right front pocket.  Not really for self defense though.  I open boxes, packages, letters with it at work and home.  Normal pocket knife stuff.

I carry a Bark River Bravo 1 concealed. Took the belt loop off the kydex, and I drop the works into my front pocket. Pretty deep pockets on my work pants, the whole thing fits in.

Has nothing to do with self defense and everything to do with needing a really stout knife often when I'm working.
