I recently purchased a Benchmade 912 Stryker. I'm a bit disheartened however because there is a a bit of play in the blade. When it is in the locked position it will rotate a slight bit back and forth. How much rotation should be considered acceptable?

Looking at the tip of the blade it can move about 1/64".

Maybe the lock bar needs to wear in a little? How many times have you opened it? Where does the lock bar engage the blade (40%? 60%? 80%?)
I had a Leafstorm I had to send back with the same problem so I know it is frustrating.

I've opened it several hundred times, wearing it in. Only have I recently noticed it; when i got it there was no play what so ever. The bar engages about 40%.

Neither my CRKTs nor my Kershaws have any blade play.  One SOG folder I do has so much, it's useless as anything but a desk ornament.  If I paid the money for a Benchmade and it had any blade play, it'd be going back for repairs.

What happens if you push the lock bar in a little. does the play go away?
Also, does it have an eccentric blade stop?

Yeah, the play goes away. Also what what do you mean by eccentric blade stop?

If you push the lock bar in and the play goes away and then you take your finger off the lock bar does it stay firmly locked up? If so it probably needs more break in. If the lock bar backs out when you take your finger off you need to send it in to BM.
The blade stop should be a pin between the scales right behind the blade. It stops the blade from moving to far in both the open and closed positions. An eccentric blade stop is a blade stop pin that is either an oval shape or hex shape. You can loosen the screw and turn the pin and it will get rid of vertical blade play. My 760 needed this adjustment BADLY when I first got it.

My benchmade can be tightened up with a screw in the blade pivot point.

+1
Most knives can be serviced by the user. It should be either a small torx or allen screw.
