I found another bayonet at Grandma's.  Not the one I was looking for, but still something.
I'm pretty sure this one is German too, but I really don't know for sure.  Dad doesn't know where this one came from.  Quite possible that it came from the same place as the last one.
blade measures 15 inches and overall it is 20.25 inches long.
wood scales with what could be an 8 stamped into each side.   no makers mark.  what could be a serial number stamped 0703-R(?)

any help in identifying what it is would be helpful and appreciated.

enjoy the pics.

pretty sure its german, as it fits on my mauser.

ive never seen one that long though.  all the bayonets ive seen for the mausers have a blade in the 10 inch range.

It is a "sword" bayonet for a Gewher 98, I am pretty sure. When you have a manly sized, straight bolt - mauser out of the Spandauwerke in 1915, under Kaiser Bill, you need an equally manly pig-sticker to go on the end of it. My first rifle was a gewher 98, and it was about as tall as I was at age 16.
