| Sorry if this has been discussed before. I ordered the Gerber LMF II A.S.E.K. (foliage green) from LAPolice Gear. I received the knife and sheath with two legs straps. Their web site/shipper/invoice says it's the A.S.E.K. But the label on the box says "LMF II INFANTRY - FOLIAGE GREEN. MODEL NO. 22-01626." I actually just Googled it and Infantry models all popped up. Looks like the A.S.E.K. Model is 22-01627. I contacted LAPolice Gear and the rep said she would pass the information on to her supervisor and I should expect an e-mail by tomorrow. Is the only the difference between the two models the little safety knife and safety knife sheath? Thanks. |

ASEK Model includes the Safety Tool and the Infantry Model doesn't. I ordered the ASEK from LAPG in Tan and it arrived as advertised. |

| So LAPG customer service contacted Gerber and found out their (LAPG) web site was incorrect and they do not actually carry the Foliage Green ASEK. They offered to send a pre-paid UPS label for return. For $59.99, the Infantry was still a good price though. Maybe they'll give me a free shipping code for my next order. |

Any place that I've looked the knife and the ASEK are the same price. Ordering the ASEK instead of infantry gets you the belt cutter for free. FWIW, the belt-cutter is useful for only that purpose. Unless such a tool is actually used frequently by you, it is no great loss. I took mine off my ASEK as it was just dead weight to me. YMMV. The mis-labeling of the knife was/is unfortunate. Mistakes happen, but the vendor should do a little something for you. A small store credit would be a good gesture IMHO. |

Got my knife the other day from LA Police Gear. The invoice says "A.S.E.K." but it's the Infantry model. It doesn't bother me, but they should correct it. I have an emergency seat belt cutter I keep in my truck anyway. Which color? They corrected the one I ordered. Foliage Green is now listed as Infantry. Tan color is still listed as A.S.E.K. I wonder if that one actually is. |

I've seen hundreds of people suggest it as a good survival knife. I've never seen pics of anyone slicing meat or making fuzzsticks.
You do ocassionally see someone stab a metal barrel or chop though bricks with one. This is an important task when survival foraging for barrels and bricks.

| Has anyone considered the basic model, the Prodigy? It doesn't have all the "bells and whistles" of the ASEK models but from my experience you don't need all that stuff in a survival knife. It has a 4.75" blade that is sturdy with a full tang; an over molded grip and a pommel that's goos for breaking windows or even as a weapon itself. I love mine. I only have one problem...mine didn't come with a sheath. I found it on clearance and the store had lost the box and the sheath. So now I have to try to find a sheath for it. I'm going to contact Gerber today and see what they say. |

When I contacted Customer Service I had to leave a message but they got back to me within a few hours. But when they did the lady on the other end of the line was very nice and told me that she had tracked down not just a sheath but a box. She said she was going to send it me complimentay and apologized for the store having lost the box and sheath. My experience was very positive. I have owned other Gerber products before and have never been let down by them. so no matter which knife you ultimately end up deciding on (be it the ASEK or Infantry or the Prodigy) you won't be disappointed by the quality and the customer service by this company. Of course like everyone it's just my $.02. |

Also im pretty sure the only true ASEK version of the knife comes in the green. It also should of came with the saftey cutter and sheath. I read a article somewhere the other day that most of the knives being sold as ASEK are in fact not really ASEK even if they come with the strap cutter. |
