First of all let me start by saying that I don't know jack about knives !! I was looking thru the SOG site and this caught my eye..What I need is a general purpose folding carry knife for every day use..I'm a trucker and have to cut thru a wide variety of things on any given day..

My question is how would the SOG Trident hold up to every day use/abuse ??

If you guys have a better choice in a knife for every day use/abuse please feel free to post up !!

I have owned one for a couple years now. Its a very well built nice with a smooth assisted opening. I used to carry it, but found it rather large. For some that might not matter, I suppose.

That is really the only complaint, per se, that I have with the Trident. Otherwise it is an excellent knife.

To address your other questions. The knife held up very well to being carried for about a year. Edge hold pretty well too.

My current carry knife is a CRKT  M1 Lightfoot that I bought from steepandcheap.com.

Kershaw blur.

SOG's assisted opening is not fast enough.  The one my buddy has is sluggish.

I own two and I like them a lot.  Last summer I carried my first one every day to work.  I work outside and it gets really dusty.  The dust didnt seem to bother the mechanism at all even when heavily oiled.  On the assisted opening the trident with the tanto blade is more sluggish than the clip point.  I own one of each so I have a good base of comparison.  Go for it you wont be dissappointed.  Sog makes great knives.

I own three different Tridents, and my wife has one of her own. Never had a problem with any of them. I carry 'em often, and two of them I bought when they first came out.

I remember the other complaint I had with mine, the safety. Aside from the fact I do not like safeties on my firearms, let alone my knifes. It would engage on its own, while being carried. Thus, each time I would go to use it, I would have to click off the safety. Not a big deal normally, but I carry a knife knowing I might have to use it for SD one day. No time for fiddling with a safety.

+1, the only thing I truly disliked about my Trident. The safety is easily removed though, and filled with epoxy if you so desire.
