Well thanks man! I came here trying to get some insight into an AR project and got pointed here to the blade area. What part of MT are ya from? I will be living in N. Idaho eventually. I would be more than happy to help with your knife making once Im there |
Right smack dab in the middle of the state, 50 miles north of Billings. Thanks for the offer. Everyone I've talked to in the custom knife community has been extremely helpful as I start out, I'm proud to be part of it. |

Trace Welcome the site ,nice to you have you here. I was checking out your work and I must say I like it . You bring a different look to the many custom knife makers already on the market . Your LEO has a bad ass look to it , the Damascus T.T.K.K. is sweet . Enjoy the site , hope you post as often as your time allows . Regards Jerry BTW I joined your forums. |

Hi Skag! Thanks... The KMG is a good solid grinder, lots of makers run them and seem very pleased. I have a JL, and a Wilton Square Wheel. The Square Wheel was my first grinder, and still one of the most versatile machines in my shop. I think getting started a KMG or a Wilton would be great for you. If everything was equal I would go Wilton though because there is alot of aftermarket stuff for them. IF the KMG is alot less $$$ it will do fine though.. Whatever you get try to get a variable speed motor. That will help ALOT being new to grinding blades. We have a forum called CustomKnivesandGuns.com. You can learn alot in the shop talk/grind area there. We have the best makers in the world willing to answer questions about anything and everything. Good luck on the knifemaking, and feel free to ask for help anytime. |
Hi Trace, I should have been making knives already. The lastfew years I have been dumping all my free $$$ into guns. My collection is almost done and then it is back to knives and learning to make them. I used to be up to date on all the grinders but that was back in 2002. What should I consider today? I thought the Wilton was a bare bones model? Guess not! |
Wilton is a workhorse, and very versatile. Im not saying its the best, but it will do things my other grinders wont. I really like the JL grinders, I think K&G Knife and Gun supply has them on thier site. Bader, Baldor, HArd Core, KMG theres alot of machines out there. They will all work, its more about time behind the grinder than the grinder if ya know what I mean;-) |
