What do you guys use to sharpen your knives? I have been a long time steel user myself, but have thought about trying auto glass.

I was extremely hesitant - but after buying a spyderco sharpmaker, I'm very happy I bought it.
I was also very impressed that it came with a DVD showing how to correctly use it, along with full-color instruction manual.  (because I was a sharpening noob)

I'm not "great" with it yet, but was able to get several of my extremely dull knives up to near-shaving sharp the first time I used it.  Now that I'm getting better, I can approach that "scary sharp" edge consistantly.

ETA:  pay no attention to that $80 MSRP.  I think I paid $50 for mine new online.

I am going to get a sharpmaker like mentioned above but I am currently using the Lansky sticks and sharpening system and have liked it a lot.

I just got a sharpmaker in the mail. I have to admit that a sharpener with a DVD you have to watch first has me a little nervous

edit I think I paid $ 45+ shipping for my sharpmaker off of Amazon.

I have no problem getting sharp enough to shave a few arm hairs, but I want that "scary sharp" that was mentioned above.

I have that ceramic stone system under a different name .  It does work great you'll need to wash them in dishsoap from time to time , the ceramic gets clogged up with metal .  One thing is be very careful with the rods you don't wanna drop them . They break easy .

I've since started using  DMT's diamond stones , they cut super fast and last forever . JMHO

You're supposed to sharpen knives? I guess that explains why my pocket knife can barely open an envelope.

I have some cheap ass Gerber thing... this piece of crap.

I desperately need to invest in something that's a little better quality.
