This was a little work but a lot of fun in the process. I reprofiled the tip for a more traditional look, slight recurve to the blade, larger choil, ground off thumg ramp and added grooves in place, reprofiled tang and hand made Natural Canvas micarta grips.

Big improvement over the Black hunk of steel it started out as in my opinion.

Refined the profile of the grips late last night.

Next is to finish up the BK7, get started on the BK2 or 10 while waiting on the BK1 Brute.

Very, very cool.

I hope that Camillus sorts out its differences and starts making these again. They are great blades for the price.

Picture is fixed, I replaced last nights flash pic with one taken in nutarul light to get rid of the glare off the blade.

I'd love to do that to a BK1.

Did you use a file, grinder, bench mounted belt sander or some combination thereof?

I remember an article in SOF years ago by Bill Bagwell about taking a Western Bowie and reconfiguring it.

Are you going to use something like KG Gunkote on the blade?

Nice work by the way.

I have a BK1 out soaking in Citrus Strip, BK7 soon to get Black Micarta Panels. BK2 and 10 in the process of being ground down and waiting for grips....Winter projects.

Stony,

I used a cheap 1x30 belt sander and 80-320 grit. I have since ground a little more or the upper point, recurved the blade a touch more, sanded down the grips a bit more and polished the blade up with 600 and then 1500 W/D paper and mineral oil.

No GC or anything just keep the blade clean and oiled.

From where did you get your slabs of micarta?
What sort of fasteners did you use for the scales/handles? Rivets or a threaded fastener?

Thanks for all the comments and feedback. Today I got the BK 1 striped and it looks like it is really going to be a handful.  It is super thick and a lot of angles, rough grind marks, very dark steel and just a hunk of steel.

I bought a hunk of Natural Canvas Micarta (12x12x1.5) and I also bought a bunck of black Canvas Micarta already cut into smaller pieces. I just have to have the size I need cut and split.

Be aware that Black Canvas is filthy.

I have to give Fox and his tutorial about  Stock Removal credit or I would have had a clue what I was doing...Read the 5 sticky posts above for some great instructions and tips.

I used Loveless Brass Rivets (threaded fastener) and epoxy to attach the grip panels. You have to drill the pilot hole for the screw and a larger counter sunk hole for the rivet bodies to tighten against. Let the epoxy dry and grind the heads flush with the grip.
