I got my new Heavy Heart the other day and was planning on keeping it a safe queen. Yeah, right. I was chopping down trees and throwing it before I got it home!
The cardboard shipping sheath.
It's first bite.
Made short work of this sapling. You can see the micarta getting sweaty.
After a little more chopping the handle is completly sweat soaked, but the textured micarta still provided excellent grip. It was 90* and 70% humidity down in a heavily wooded flood plain so the handle wasn't the only thing sweat soaked!
Moving on from the smaller sapling I tackled a 4" tree next. Not a problem.
A Busse Combat blade and a Brooks B17 saddle, two icons unsurpassed in form and function. You can see bark on the tip from where I was throwing it at a tree, but my hands were so slippery from sweat I couldn't get a good enough grip to stick it successfully. You can see the sweat on the nose of the saddle that dripped off my arm in the short time it took to balance the knife for the photo.
I've been riding my Spicer fixed gear (can't shift or coast) bike to work so getting into the woods on the way home is no problem. I think they were drunk when they welded on my seat stays though... My POF upper made it's first trip home in that same Carradice saddle bag.

Sweet blade and great pics. Did the blade still shave hair after that abuse? I bet it did. Busse blades are awesome.

It had the same edge it did fresh out of the package. Yesterday I put it through it's paces a bit more.
First I stabbed it into an ammo box 10 times, which only scuffed the coating and removed it at the very tip.
(Of course, for sheer ease of penetration nothing beats a spike hawk!)
Then it was over to the the throwing stop where the first hit punched clear through slightly rotted section.
The other side of the same throw.
My next couple of throws flipped over but still stuck well upside down.
My last throw was a bit under roatated, but I still wouldn't want to be on the receiving end.

Awesome pics and tests. I am glad to see you using that bad boy. You get so much more satisfaction out of using a blade than having it sit in the safe. That blade is defnitely a user.

Very nice! I was tempted to get one but pass because already have a FSH. Did you painted the handle cause it looks like urban camo. Now, I am saving my money for their up coming new FBM!

Sweet pix.
Gotta love those pups.
Here's what I do at shows to demonstrate tip/finish durability...
